Jan 11, 2006 Election Update: Conservatives Surging

Filed under: Canadian Politics, - 2006 Canada Election

I have updated SES, EKOS and Strategic Counsel to their latest polls. The Conservatives continue to climb. Of note in this update is that for the first time the NDP + Conservatives are more than 155 seats needed to pass legislation. Note that the combined NDP+Liberal seats have fallen from 151 at dissolution to 109 today.

For complete details, see:

http://election.democraticSPACE.com

My 5-poll rolling average yields a Conservative minority with the Bloc Quebecois (edit: or NDP) holding the balance of power.

Note:
CPC+BQ=199
CPC+NDP=160
LPC+BQ=148
LPC+NDP=109

Looks like the Conservatives are getting closer to a majority, but I take it that unless they make more gains in Atlantic Canada & Quebec that would be unlikely?

Great site thanks, just one note:

Your NDP strategic voting guide and Liberal strategic voting guide are incorrect about EDMONTON-STRATHCONA. The NDP has a stronger chance then the LPC of beating the CPC. You numbers in the seat projections show this and a quick look at the candidate also shows this. The NDP candidate is a star and well know whereas the LPC candidate is a nobody who has done almost no campaigning. Most progressive blogs have support coalescing around the NDP candidate. Please update your advice.

Thank you for the great advice…
A strategic voter from EDMONTON-CENTRE

Shouldn’t that be a Conservative Minority with either the Bloc or the NDP holding the balance of power?

Yes, I will take Edmonton-Strathcona off the NDP strategic voting guide when I update it.
