Jack Layton must have trouble breathing with his head so far up his ---.
The problems at home with Multiculturalism and Individual Human Rights Issues far out weigh any of his concerns with Kyoto and Enviromental Degredation. If the Multicultural and Human Rights issues are not addressed immediately the next war will be fought in North America and more than likely Canada. Open your eyes and get the Immigration of those taking over our country under control and make them become Canadians rather than Canadians becoming Muslims. The wars being fought in the Middle East are being fought by Christian Canadian and American Soldiers for the benefit of the Muslims. Wake up. JEP

High ideal for the grassroots...

If only the grassroots would rise up enough to attend meetings and vote!

Yes - in some ways, the NDP has made the fact of "delegates" a detriment to the grassroots democracy of the CCF roots of the party.

But I know how hard it is for me to be in attendance and vote the way my party needs me... I just do not have the time to be the political activist I want to be! You cannot blame the party brass for my non-attendance at meetings.

However, the non-particiaption and attendance of party members like me make it very possible for the power-brokers who have lots of time to take over all the decision making to the detriment of the grassroots democracy we all signed up for!

Democratic reform should be about:

1) Required politcal education (re: structure of democracy and government) mandatory in primary and secondary education

2) Dispensations to allow card carrying members of polical parties time off full time jobs without penalty from employers (with documented proofs of politcal time worked, but without disclosure of which party affiliation of worker).

3) Modified Proportional Representation system (of course) to make democracy more democratic by virtue of being more representative. Can you imagine how this kind of representation could make politics something entirely different from what we know now?
