Smear campaigns MAY still work on the door step with canvassers but the online community is too vigilant, too critical and too sophisticated for a coordinated , daily slur and slam fest. The bloggers are gonna continue to be the worst critics that the old tacticians have ever faced.

The smear campaign is in part responsible for the low turn-out. Liberals did not turn out to the polls to vote for Watson, she gave them a reason to stay home.

By-elections often have low turnouts as there is not the party advertising to get people geared up. The NDP did not win beacuse of low turnout, it won because for some unknown reason the Liberals picked a candidate who had already pissed off half the riding. Why they could not get a higher profile candidate that people like escapes me. By picking Watson the riding association blew it. Poor Gerard, out today again at High Park Station, how will he ever wash Watson and her lack of integrity of his hands? sd

Smearing campaign had nothing to do with DiNovo's win. It was probably one of the worst voter turnout in Parkdale history. In the Provincial election 2003, there were 64, 974 registered voters in Parkdale High Park, according to your numbers at 10:04 pm only 28, 457 voted. That's what the NDP was counting on, low voter turnout

I am going to say this on a couple of different blogs tonight. The game has changed and the Libs who are responsible for the back room tactics better figure that out very quickly or slip into irrelevancy. The game has changed.

McGuinty and the Ontario Liberal caucas should reread and heed their much tooted Anti-bullying policy. It was a total farce that in this riding of the former Minister of Education - G. Kennedy - where this by-election just took place, and where with much fanfare the premier and Kennedy brought us the much welcomed Anti-bullying policy to our public education system - that they went negative. I will remind the provincial Liberal Party, McGuinty and Watson, the Liberal candidate in this riding what bullying is. As such bullying is a conscious and willful act of aggression or manipulation by one or more people against another person or people. It may be premeditated or opportunistic. Bullying is an abuse of power by those who carry it out. Verbal bullies (such as personally smearing a candidate), speak badly of their targets and may, such as in this case, spread rumours seeking to hurt or humiliate. Bullies always reply on those who are marginally involved, the bystanders, where as a more involved bystander, Watson pretended that this isn’t a bullying tactic, where she not only does nothing to stop it but has actually, by her own words and deeds in this campaign here, actively involved in supporting it. As a public school trustee, I was outraged by the actions and deeds of Liberal bloggers, the Liberal candidate, and Liberal premier of this province. You blew your integrity. Read your policy and follow it.

Thank goodness the NDP has won. There should be no reward of victory for Sylvia Watson and the disgusting campaign she ran.
