		<description>density is part of the solution, but public transit DOES help, as do HOV lanes. the problem in socal is that building up is frowned upon, because tall buildings can become rubble in an earthquake.</description>

		<description>This is sound advice for every municipality currently suffocating in their own exhaust fumes and smog caused by rampant urban sprawl.  Considering that today is World Population Day it might be worth noting that by 2008, the United Nations is projecting that 3.3 billion people -- half of the world&#039;s population -- will be living in urban areas.  With cities in Africa and Asia expected to double in size by 2030, land use is going to be a defining point of debate in the decades to come.  Let&#039;s hope that SoCal turns the course on road widening and building more highways, and sets an example for other cities in the developing world to follow.</description>
