There is speculation in the mainstream media about the wheeling and dealing going on. Well, true to form, there is no evidence of that above board. The Liberals just voted to reject a one member-one vote method of choosing their leader, in order to pertuate the behind-closed-doors horsetrading that characterizes delegated conventions. You call this democracy? I sure don’t.

Kennedy and Dion have a deal in place. The details are still being worked out. But essentially it commits the trailing candidate to back the leading candidate; the only question is when? The candidate with the fewerst votes is dropped each round. Will Dryden, Volpe, Martha Hall Findlay, or Brison back another candidate or drop out early? This impacts when the Kennedy-Dion deal takes effect. Dion wants the deal to take effect only when the final four candidates remain. Kennedy wants it earlier. This is worth keeping an eye on…
Elsewhere, look for Joe Volpe to back Bob Rae. Dryden may go to Kennedy. No idea about Martha, but Ignatieff’s people are pushing hard. Trouble is, I don’t think Martha is an Ignatieff Liberal. She may do it to advance herself if it looks like Ignatieff will win, but she would lose credibility if she does.
