Juanita may be able to make this a three way race.

Comment/commentaire by Peter Cassidy 07.19.07 @ 10:29 am

Corrigan. Ancaster will not let the Tories down…I can pretty much say for certain that the PC’s will take this one.

Comment/commentaire by erl 07.30.07 @ 9:08 pm

I’m very confident that this riding will be sending Ted back to Queens Park.

Vote for what you believe in and for leadership you can count on.

“Vote for what you believe in and for leadership you can count on.”

Exactly why voters will send McMeekin back to Queen’s Park. Where have you been in the community Juanita?

Comment/commentaire by Teej 08.28.07 @ 9:00 am

A close friend of mine who is working on the PC campaign in this riding has said that Chris Corrigan is one of the laziest candidates he has ever seen in his life.

Two weeks into the campaign, it appears that Corrigan has only canvassed 5 polls himself. Between constant phone calls from his wife and numerous lunch “meetings” where he disappears from the office for hours on end, he isn’t getting much work done. In fact, his office was closed for three days because he wasn’t around and his volunteers have taken off. The general mantra around the campaign appears to be “if Corrigan won’t do the work than neither will we”.

The campaign here is mostly being fought from the central PC office who are apparently making over 100,000 calls to voters on his behalf. The PC’s think they can win this riding and they have a legitimate shot but Corrigan has to pick up the ground game.

There are very few campaigns in the province that are being helped so extensivley by the central office but Corrigan seems to be wasting a perfect chance to go to Queen’s Park. The money is there, the support is there, but, from what I have been hearing, Corrigan’s head isn’t in the game at this stage.

For this reason alone, I say that this riding will be a Liberal hold. If Corrigan turns it on over the next few weeks, he’ll have a chance but without the fire in his belly, which he so badly needs, he won’t be able to pull it off.

After seeing the televised debates - McMeekin should be scared. The NDP candidate was the only one who actually talked about issues that would effect the riding (like St. Joe’s medical labs shutting down and children with autism). What was all that talk about Nuclear power anyway? I have to agree with “Beenie” - Corrigan looked bored on TV and he looked bored at the Ancaster Fair last weekend. A real three-way race this time I think.

Comment/commentaire by hems 09.25.07 @ 10:18 am

Hems, I would agree that Corrigan looked tired and bored on the debates, but a three way race in this riding? I don’t know about that….

Its a two way race with Corrigan and McMeekin duking it out. Maldonado is only attempting to run a campaign in Westdale/Dundas. She hasn’t canvassed one poll in Flamborough and only has 3 signs in Ancaster. She isn’t really in the race.

But, I will give one thing to her. She will play kingmaker here. Her vote will either undercut McMeekin enough to allow Corrigan to slip through the middle and win it or she will continue to run a piss-poor campaign and let McMeekin take the crown.

It all depends on these last 14 days.

We’ve canvassed all over this riding. We have signs all over the riding. We are doing waves all over the riding. It’s been great. Thanks ADFW.

If the NDP thought this was a three way race they would have run a real candidate, instead of a federal staffer who only knows about federal issues and has no connection to 75% of the riding.
The NDP only poll around 8% in this riding. Get real and forget orange.

Comment/commentaire by Darwin 09.28.07 @ 7:27 pm

Juanita knows the all the issues at hand for this riding. It shows by her experience in the NDP she can handle Provincial & Federal policies. Juanita has the knowledge and experience to get the job done. What has the other candidates has done, except promises that they broke.
Vote for Juanita to get things done right.

Comment/commentaire by Teresa Stribbell 09.29.07 @ 11:41 am

Juanita Maldonado and the NDP would serve the interests of all people of ADFW riding and Ontarians. Juanita is a very personable and knowledgeable candidate who wants to do good things for the riding and students, of McMaster. We need someone to fight for the people. Juanita is the right person to do just that. Juanita and NDP is the only party listening, & standing up and speaking about what we all needs and deserves.
Vote for Juanita Oct 10 2007

Comment/commentaire by Terri 09.30.07 @ 9:23 am

I heard that, in addition to phone and foot canvassers, the NDP team in ADFW has a “Liberal Sign Stomp Team”

They go to the campaign office, get a poll map, then kick over all of the Liberal signs with big boots.

It’s probably great if you like the outdoors. If not, you are probably more suited for the Liberals’ “Democratic Space Smear Crew”

Comment/commentaire by AP 10.01.07 @ 10:55 pm

It’s fact that the NDP is knocking over signs. They called the cops in Hamilton Centre because Steve Ruddick lost over 100 signs. Every liberal sign in Westdale is down and the ones that aren’t down are shred. Hamilton East Stoney Creek is the same deal. Haven’t been up the mountain yet.

Typical NDP tactics. Can’t win on your ideas so attempt to simply sabatoge others.

Comment/commentaire by Terry 10.02.07 @ 8:33 am

Yep, it’s true about the signs. I live in Westdale and I can vouch for the fact that many Liberal signs have either been removed or shredded against the wishes of the people on the property. I’m not really sure if it’s the NDP doing it but it’s what I’ve been hearing as well.

Comment/commentaire by AC 10.02.07 @ 12:32 pm

I think its a bit premature to say that it’s the NDP doing it - it could be the Tories or the Greens, for all any of us know - but it is true that all of McMeekin’s signs are being tampered with. I think there is a reason behind that.

If you check out the riding by riding listings on this site, its clear that McMeekin is the candidate with momentum.

Comment/commentaire by Bob 10.02.07 @ 2:52 pm

It is with the greatest regret that we are forced to remove all comments by Yates, Shawn, Mike L, Ancasterian, and Mike Thick in the comments sections of the ridings of Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale, Hamilton Centre, and Hamilton East-Stoney Creek. These are all from the same person. We consider this a blatant attempt to subvert genuine debate by fabricating multiple identities in an attempt to amplify their voice and creating the impression of consensus. We are committed to free speech, but such abuse will not be tolerated on DemocraticSPACE. We hope our readers will understand our position.

Comment/commentaire by democraticspace 10.02.07 @ 6:03 pm

I just saw the NDP (Howard Hampton)& Juanita team in Dundas, cheering & waving to passerbys
I think the N.D.P. will gain enough momemtum to win this riding by 1500 to 3000 votes when the dust clears. Plus they will keep their promises.

Comment/commentaire by Dave 10.04.07 @ 12:40 pm

Hate to say it, but it looks like McMeekin has been handed yet another free ride. The de-amalgamation movement has finally lost it’s significance, McMeekin has done little to nothing to improve the quality of life in the riding, this is practically a GIFT to the PC Party in this election. Unfortunately they (John Tory et al) Turf a capable candidate and replace him with a virtual nobody. Granted, the Socon base in the Dutch Reform community are warm to the religious schools proposal, they’re not too warm to the particularly socially liberal views of John Tory. That, and the fact that the Family Coalition party ran a candidate this time around, that does nothing but hurt the PCs here. With that being said, The NDP has a snowball’s chance in hell of winning this riding leaving “Mayor Ted” to take it once again, undeserving and by circumstance.

What have you been smoking?!?

This a two horse race. Corrigan and McMeekin will be going head to head towards the finish line. The NDP aren’t players here at all.

I’m not sure why this is noted as a Liberal victory. Honestly, I could see it going either way.

Please note this comment is in a series of comments by me. I’m doing a prediction for every riding. For this riding I’m predicting the winner will be the Libs

Comment/commentaire by Nick J Boragina 10.07.07 @ 11:22 pm

Greg, I’m on the ground here and I can’t understand how McMeekin could have a 10 point lead. I like the guy and all and I do think he will win, but I think this one is going to be very, very close. I think McMeekin may only win it with about 100 or 200 votes. I don’t see evidence of a massive landslide victory in the making. I’m sorry, I just don’t.
