Bob Delaney is the candidate for the liberals. There is a nomination race going on for the Tory nod. Ted Woloshyn is apparently considering a run.

How is this for a political sweat in the Mississauga News?
THE MISSISSAUGA NEWS
Idea clash
Dear Editor:

The Mississauga News
Mar 14, 2007

Idea clash
What a great idea that Ward 6 Councillor Carolyn Parrish has (The News, Feb. 9 edition) in proposing that, to address specific municipal issues, Mississauga City councillors register to run in this year’s provincial elections!
Certainly, the federal and provincial parties would jump at the chance to run candidates at one level to advance their interests at another level, such as the municipal level. For example, one or more of the provincial parties could run a slate of endorsed candidates for both school boards, as well as for city council.
City councils that quarrel with either the federal or provincial government over the years could then be openly targeted by one or more of the parties. Fighting is always more entertaining than working together anyway.
The provincial parties might nominate and elect federal candidates who will actually stand up for Ontario in all the federal caucuses. We might even stop this nonsense in which all of Ontario’s business activity qualifies for the purposes of calculating federal-provincial transfers and pollution contributions, but as little as possible of any other province’s in either of those categories.
Democracy is always a clash of competing ideas. You should consider some of those ideas with a healthy dose of skepticism. I hope the ideas above, and those of Carolyn Parrish, both qualify for such healthy skepticism.
In the meantime, both Ontario and Mississauga will keep working together, as we have for more than three years, to address both the municipal-provincial fiscal gap, and the federal-provincial fiscal gap, not to mention continuing inequities to Mississauga in GTA pooling and the Region of Peel.
It may not be as exciting as a name-calling cat-fight, but it actually does get results.
Bob Delaney
MPP Mississauga West

The Tories are going to nominate their candidate on Tuesday from what I hear.

It will be either Nina Tangri, an insurance business owner or Chiropractor Carlan Stants.

Tangri ran in the last election against Delaney and also ran in 2004 against Wajid Khan.

Comment/commentaire by OJ 05.15.07 @ 6:31 pm

NINA TANGRI ALL THE WAY!

Come October the 10th, Streetsville will be fully PC Blue and you better believe it! John Tory for Premier of Ontario!

Comment/commentaire by Utsav S 08.01.07 @ 6:14 pm

Delaney’s exposure in the Colle-gate slush fund affair will not help him. Did the Auditor General say that Delaney was exonerated? No. The news release posted by the Canadian Taxpayers
Federation relating to Delaney’s use of taxpayers’ dollars is eye-popping. With Delaney’s denials sounding more like Bart Simpson in panic mode, look to see a seat change in this riding.

Comment/commentaire by janet seabrook 08.22.07 @ 5:14 am

It’s Funny to see Delaney distance himself from Colle about the dirty slush fund. Funny seeing a Liberal distance themself with a Liberal. By golly, this party is a mess. I feel sorry for McGuinty…Not

Comment/commentaire by Mystery Political Junkie 08.25.07 @ 7:29 pm

Yes, Bob Delaney has not been a very good MPP for our riding.

BUT

Nina Tangri is a disaster. This perennial loser is going to get spanked again by Delaney. She may have 10,000 signs everywhere, but her campaign is short on what it needs most - VOTES!

Comment/commentaire by Nina 2 Lose 09.05.07 @ 7:02 am

If Nina’s campaign stress the $23,000 Delaney’s wife got - she’ll kill him. If they don’t - Delaney wins. Hope she runs an aggressive campaign.

Comment/commentaire by a 09.10.07 @ 1:09 pm

Nina has the entire support of the ethnic demographics. She will take a clean sweep from Delaney. Delaney honestly does not belong to stay in office anymore. His time is done. Done with corruption with the Slush Fund, done with spending taxpayers money on illicit things, hes just done. I’ve heard Delaney has went around telling kids that if you put up lawn signs, “I will give you your full 40 volunteer hours”. This is a man who is desperate.

Comment/commentaire by Nina Not To Lose and You Should Shut Up "Nina 2 Lose" 09.10.07 @ 9:55 pm

Comment/commentaire by NinaWillWin 09.10.07 @ 9:55 pm

Yeah, Delaney doesn’t even look interested. The Ipsos Reid says he is in the lead so far though. Nina’s campaign gotta nail him on the slush fund and his ineffective voice for the riding. If the ethnic votes comes out - Nina wins. 41% visible Minority riding.

Comment/commentaire by a 09.11.07 @ 7:42 am

BTW, I am impressed with Gail McCabe.

Comment/commentaire by a 09.11.07 @ 7:42 am

Obviously some campaign workers for Tangri had a little too much to drink last night, given the increase in the number of posts on this board.

Please look at this rationally.

1. The Slush fund scandal is inside baseball - nobody cares.

2. Nina has lost in EVERY SINGLE general election as a Candidate.

3. Delaney delivered the GO Station to Lisgar Road residents … that’s the kind of thing people remember.

Look, I don’t think Delaney should serve as our MPP, but surely John Tory could have found someone better than Nina Tangri?!

Yes, it is possible to run several times before winning… and that worked for Abe Lincoln, but Nina Tangri ain’t no honest Abe.

Delaney by 5% on voting day.

Comment/commentaire by Nina 2 Lose 09.12.07 @ 7:27 am

Funny… ask the general public what they can do with $23,000?

Comment/commentaire by a 09.12.07 @ 8:32 am

4 weeks to go now. Delaney has been quiet but we will expect to see him get aggressive shortly. Nina is gonna have to work hard to bring this seat home

Comment/commentaire by THINK 09.13.07 @ 12:26 pm

FYI.

Nina has been on the front page of almost every major newspaper. Shes got more coverage than any other Tory so far.

Delaney is in the dark stealing PC lawn signs. His candidacy debate was pathetic.

Comment/commentaire by HeyLiberalIdiots 09.15.07 @ 10:48 pm

The reason Nina has been on the front page of every major newspaper is the size of her ….

Come on folks, Nina ain’t in the ball game.

Her kids should stay off the internet after-hours, these comments are embarrassing.

Delaney to win by 5%+

Comment/commentaire by Nina 2 Lose 09.17.07 @ 11:44 am

The size of her what? Please, keep this mature.

Nina will have to bust her ass to take this seat from Delaney. All projection models shows this riding to be within the margin of error. Including this one. Guessing that Nina is about 2-3 % behind Delaney.

How Tory fares in the debate will have a lot to do with how this riding turns out.

Comment/commentaire by THINK 09.17.07 @ 5:05 pm

BTW, Tory does not hand pick candidates. It is against the PC Party in Ontario’s charter to do so.

Comment/commentaire by THINK 09.17.07 @ 5:05 pm

Nina came to my friends door the other night. He found her pleasant but she didn’t give him a compelling reason to vote for her. perhaps she needs to work on creating the ‘Why u should vote for Nina” pitch.

Comment/commentaire by THINK 09.18.07 @ 6:01 am

Nina Tangri has done nothing but put up signs, sometimes illegally, and that’s her whole campaign. There has been no indication that she has canvassed any neighborhood that I’m aware of.

Bob Delaney is a man of substance. He has things he can list off that he promised 4 years ago and has delivered, such as the new Lisgar GO Train Station. I went canvassing with him and he is an insanely detailed policy wonk surprisingly.

Vote Bob Delaney for Mississauga-Streetsville on October 10!

Comment/commentaire by Pinball Wizard 09.18.07 @ 7:39 pm

Funny, I work as a consultant with GO and politicans have little to do with what GO Does. Actually Lisgar GO was planned 10 years ago as part of GO’s urban development plan.

Delaney wins if the riding can forgive Dalton for this broken promises. This riding is really about Tory vs. McGuinty. If the South Asian vote comes out however, Delaney is toast

Comment/commentaire by THINK 09.19.07 @ 8:57 pm

I don’t think South Asians automatically vote for someone of the same race.

And about Lisgar GO, if it was planned 10 years ago, why did the previous government never try to bring the initiative forward and implement it? John Snobelen was the MPP, and he was in the Cabinet? Delaney’s a backbencher and he managed to move it forward. I’m surprised that Lisgar was opened so quickly as well, I thought it take at least 2 years.

Comment/commentaire by Pinball Wizard 09.21.07 @ 3:38 am

Last week Delaney was seen out on a main road installing his OWN signs. He has recently filed a lawsuit against the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. I wonder if the Liberal war room knows about this one? Maybe voters should before election day.

Comment/commentaire by Political Hack 09.21.07 @ 10:40 am

Urban planning professionals within GO make decisions when lines go under construction. You don’t urban plan something today and it happens in 4 years. It takes years of planning. Delaney asked for something that he already knew was in the cycle. It is not rocket science.

And Liberals should know this well, being that their massive 417.5 billion transit plan doesn’t start until 2011.

It’s like me asking for a grocery store in a fast growing development - OF COURSE ITS GONNA HAPPEN.

As for South Asian voters - if 70% of them vote for Nina - Bob loses. It all depends on how badly Nina wants to win.

Comment/commentaire by THINK 09.21.07 @ 12:57 pm

$17.5 Billion, sorry…

Comment/commentaire by THINK 09.21.07 @ 1:17 pm

Mr. Bob Delaney (Mississauga West): On a point of order, Mr. Speaker: I bring to your attention standing orders 23(h) and 23(i) regarding the making of allegations against another member or the imputing of false or unavowed motives to another member.

The Acting Speaker: I don’t agree that there’s a point of order. I’ll return to the member for Niagara Centre.

Mr. Kormos: Thank you kindly. I want to say to the member for Mississauga West: Did you get beaten up a lot in high school? Is this an act of revenge? Are you using the immunity of the House with the will to retaliate against anybody who ever roughed you up? It gets awful irritating. Do you know what I mean? It gets awful irritating.

Comment/commentaire by THINK 09.23.07 @ 3:41 pm

Bob Delaney’s wife got $23,914 yet we have organizations in our riding that can’t get a penny to deliver services. Young people in the Bristol/Creditview area say that there are no programs geared towards black youth YET Mr. Delaney’s wife can get $23,914.

What could you do with $23,914? I asked some friends on facebook:

“Pay off my student loan and travel to South Africa…”

“I’d spend it on the family!!! Big vacation for everyone!”

“Invest in a business.”

“Pay off my student loan and bank the rest.”

“I would keep the $3914 for myself, and the rest would go to the wifey and the three kids….”

This is real stuff. Bob Delaney’s wife gets $23,914 with no application, no accountability. That is not integrity, or dedication - that is backhanded and a slap in the face to voters who could really use $23,914.

Add that the average household in this riding is paying between $500-$900/year with this regressive health tax.

Ask voters what they could do with an extra $500-$900 in their pocket.

It’s time for honesty in Mississauga-Streetsville, its time for Nina Tangri.

Comment/commentaire by rad 09.23.07 @ 8:11 pm

I asked 6 neighbors on my mom’s street why they are voting for Delaney, as I saw their signs. They each told me that they never asked for a lawn sign.

To Delaney’s supporters - what is up wid dat?

Comment/commentaire by rad 09.26.07 @ 7:25 pm

What’s up with that, rad, is that you’re a Tory hack trying to spin this race in your candidate’s favor, whoever that may be.

Comment/commentaire by Pinball Wizard 09.27.07 @ 8:33 am

GO NINA TANGRI, She is honest, dedicated and is out knocking on doors everyday. Its seems that her camapiagn has the momentum of a run away freight train, I wonder why she’s so popular?

Comment/commentaire by RSE 09.27.07 @ 1:18 pm

Pinball, why run from the issues? $23K and the fact that people are asking how a Delaney got on their lawn?

If Liberals are allowed to LIE, then I’m am allowed to present facts.

Comment/commentaire by rad 09.27.07 @ 4:54 pm

How odd.

Here’s RSE’s posting from Kitchener Centre

“Matt Stanson’s campaign has the momentum of a runaway freight train, I wonder why he’s so popular?”
Comment/commentaire by RSE 09.28.07 @ 1:34 pm

and here’s his posting from Mississauga Streetsville.

“GO NINA TANGRI, She is honest, dedicated and is out knocking on doors everyday. Its seems that her camapiagn has the momentum of a run away freight train, I wonder why she’s so popular?”
Comment/commentaire by RSE 09.27.07 @ 1:18 pm

In the 16 minutes beween postings that “runaway train” made it all the way from Mississauga to Kitchener.

Comment/commentaire by klittler 10.05.07 @ 7:36 am

Nina Tangri lost my vote when just last night several missing Bob Delaney signs were discovered in her campaign office. There is video evidence and the police are now involved. Nina should be ashamed. Yeah, there’s someone I would want to represent me — NOT.

Comment/commentaire by Sapguy 10.09.07 @ 10:39 pm

4 years later and the dirty tactics of Nina Tangri still haven’t changed. I wish I was back home to offer my help and support, goodluck to Bob Delaney and his team.

Comment/commentaire by Anthony 10.10.07 @ 1:37 pm

“I don’t really have heroes, although I did admire Brian Mulroney for Meech Lake and free trade and the GST. I admired Indira Ghandi and Margaret Thatcher, not necessarily for their policies, but because they were strong female leaders for their times when it was unheard of for women to hold such powerful positions. They weren’t afraid to be leaders.” -Nina Tangri

Okay I could go on about Mulroney, Thatcher had her downs, but was a strong woman, but Indira Ghandi ruined India and has left her footprint of scandal and corruption on the country long after her death. I don’t want an MPP who has the worst of role models.

Comment/commentaire by woah 10.10.07 @ 1:49 pm

Nina Tangri’s insane tactics have been put to the voters in tonight’s vote, and the people have spoken: NINA, GO BACK TO WHEREVER THE HELL YOU CAME FROM, WE DON’T WANT YOU.

I hope you get this message very soon, Ms. Tangri.

Comment/commentaire by Pinball Wizard 10.10.07 @ 9:29 pm

I’m no fan of Nina Tangri’s but “go back to wherever the hell you came from” is an ugly statement.

Nina immigrated to Canada from Britain 21 years ago, according to her bio. So what? She has every right to run, even if it’s always in a losing cause.

Comment/commentaire by klittler 10.11.07 @ 11:32 am

When I said “go back to wherever the hell you came from,” I don’t mean back to England, and I apologize if that’s what my comments were interpreted as. But don’t you think that after 4 elections she should just go? Give some other candidate a chance to lose (or win, who knows?)Put up some decent competition for a change.

Congratulations to Bob Delaney on his reelection. My only regret is the low voter turnout (Bob actually received 7000 less votes than in 2003)

Comment/commentaire by Pinball Wizard 10.11.07 @ 6:47 pm

By the way, klittler. About your views on RSE’s comments and how you find it strange he made it between Mississauga and Kitchener in 16 minutes, you should check the date. Between RSE’s post on Kitchener and the one in Mississauga, there’s a 24 hour time difference.

Comment/commentaire by Pinball Wizard 10.11.07 @ 7:41 pm

When I drove by Delaney’s office, the day of Sapguy’s comment there were two cruisers parked outside of there. Perhaps the ’sign theft’ backfired.

Comment/commentaire by aude vide tace 10.14.07 @ 10:29 pm

Right you are Pinball Wizard. There is a day’s time difference. Still, the nearly identical text didn’t show a whole lot of originality.

Could be a UTM student from Kitchener or say, a WLU student from Mississauga, which might explain away the double postings. Could be. More likely a PC central blogger who should have been focusing on other things.
