Peter Shurman should stick to radio broadcasting. He would make a lousy politician.

Comment/commentaire by David Sanderson 08.12.07 @ 8:00 pm

Racco barely won in 2003. Shurman and the PC’s should retake this riding on the strength of the religious school funding policy which will resonate with a good number of voters here.

Comment/commentaire by MikeyG 09.13.07 @ 7:59 pm

why should we pay for some dumb ideas of another Tory about schools when we should have a referendum on it first.

Comment/commentaire by john G. 09.18.07 @ 7:45 pm

I think Shurman has an excellent chance. This is a riding where the ordinary shift in provincial polls (as seen in the latest Ipsos Reid) from 2003 would place it in the PC column. That, combined with PC strength in the 905 should make this riding as “leading PC”

We will be well served by Peter Shurman who seems to be a strong person with a mind of his own. Anyone who mentions segregation in relation to the faith based school issue is woefully ignorant of the facts and a peon for McGuinty.
Have a brain! Ontario already has over 50,000 kids in religious based schools and almost 700,000 Catholics in publicly funded separate education. Are the Catholic kids segregated from society? If so, get rid of public funding for Catholic schools. If not, give all kids the same funding. It’s a fairness issue most of all.

Comment/commentaire by David 09.28.07 @ 8:43 am

I like David’s idea for abolishing Catholic school funding better than Tory’s plan and so do most Ontarians.

Anyway I’m calling this one for the Liberals, in spite of Mario Racco being a grade-Z MPP. Tory has basically abandoned the religious school funding plank (it’ll be a free vote guaranteed to fail). There is no point in voting for Peter Shurman on the funding issue.

The statement today by John Tory on the conservative Faith based funding election platform will switch this riding back to Racco.

Peter Shurman is a carpetbagger who is trying to bring his insane views to a public forum. Let’s not let that happen.

Comment/commentaire by Pinball Wizard 10.01.07 @ 11:23 am

Segregation? Is that all you have got? When Davis extended funding to Grade 10-OAC for Catholics, the Liberals would fear monger on “segregation”. Did it ever happen? No.
This is not about segregation at all. This is about the government regulating private religious schools to make sure their educational standards are not lower than the governments.

And for the 500th millionth time already, the funding will go to ALREADY existing approved religious schools.

Enough of the fear-mongering you atheists.

It is with the greatest regret that we are forced to remove all comments by Malik, Naim_Malik, albert_chang, sue_sung, jackkie, josh_siato, John Lee, Josephine, Mark, Robert, and Chester_Rochard in the comments sections of the ridings of Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Willowdale, and Don Valley West. These are all from the same person. We consider this a blatant attempt to subvert genuine debate by fabricating multiple identities in an attempt to amplify their voice and creating the impression of consensus. We are committed to free speech, but such abuse will not be tolerated on DemocraticSPACE. We hope our readers will understand our position.

Someone who gets deep into a personal attack based on religion like Peter Shurman does not deserve our vote. He’s gone so far to the right that he’s attacking McGuinty for not supporting faith based funding because he, his wife, and his kids go to Catholic School. This to me suggests that Shurman’s argument is that McGuinty is favoring his religious base, which is SO George Bush!

Why don’t you go back to the airwaves to your show that I’ve never heard of before, bigot?

Comment/commentaire by Pinball Wizard 10.09.07 @ 9:16 am

And yeah, I don’t like it when candidates get personal by bringing their families into the fight, Shurman!
