I think this is going to be a very close race. Yes, Elliott is the wife of Jim Flaherty and has his support (plus his team), but she only won by a little over 1000 votes in a by-election with a 30% turn-out rate.

The Liberal candidate, meanwhile, has links to Lakeridge Health (with a hospital for Whitby being a huge local issue) as well as the Chamber of Commerce. If Hammer plays her cards right, I think she can pull off a victory.

I think Morgan is on to something. However, in the Flaherty Feifdom I would expect Jim’s electoral machine to be kicked into high gear to help out his wife. Whitby, Brooklin and North West Oshawa are of high income - classical suburbia. Tax cuts, a lean public service, law and order and even full-funding of religous schools are high on the radar hear. I see lot’s of BMW’s on the roads and the real state market is booming. I’d still place my bet on the Tories, but I can’t wait to see the fight.

Please note this comment is in a series of comments by me. I’m doing a prediction for every riding. For this riding I’m predicting the winner will be the PCs
