Keith Martin is out the door in this seat. His time is up. Randall Garrison will take this seat, and not by a small margin either. EJDF will vote NDP on 1/23.

Based on what I’m seeing in the riding I’d say that the Conservatives are running a stronger campaign this time. They also have a better candidate. Martin is wounded from the last election and is behind on the ground game. Randall Garrison is making a strong showing. The Greens are mostly invisible, their successful candidate from last time now holds a council seat in Saanich.

I’d guess this is a 2-way race between Garrison and Martin. Martin has very little cushion in terms of support. I think this race will come down to who turns out to vote. Right now the vote will be close.

The regrettable advertising blunder by the Liberal party is having a repercussion wherever there are significant armed forces voters. Esquimalt is one. Keith Martin has already said that the ad was let out by an “idiot”. Earlier he refused to associate himself with Paul Martin’s health care proposals. None of that can help his campaign. This one is a contest between the NDP and the Conservatives.

I think Keith has done a lot for the riding. Having met and spoken with him a few times, I can see he is a decent, hard working politician. It’s true, he doesn’t always tow the party line, but don’t you want an MP who can think for himself and who’s honest about his positions on the issues? Although I’m not a fan of the Liberals, I will vote for Keith and I hope he can continue to represent Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca in Ottawa.

I voted for the Conservatives Troy DeSouza at advance poll on Friday. Still this is a tight three way race that will all come down to voter turnout. Kieth Martin has been MP a long time so name recognition carries him over Liberal banner. This riding has gone all over the map party-wise, from NDP to Reform to Alliance to Conservative to Liberal. I don’t want this riding in the opposition now that it looks like Harper has closed the deal this time.

I predict this riding will depend on voter turnout, and whether or not thewinning oparty can win the most votes. I predict the winner will have more than 30% of the vote, and the party that can get the most people to vote for them will win.

lol

That Liberal ad attacking the military will destroy Keith Martin in this riding, it will be an NDP/Conservative fight.

Comment/commentaire by Trevor 01.17.06 @ 10:56 am

Keith has done so much for our riding – it would be a shame to see some stupid ads cost him the election. I know the people in this riding will look beyond that and see Keith is the only option for representation in Ottawa!

Western Block Party Win

… JOKING!!!

naw, Liberal win, the grits are still holding thier own in BC, and the NDP is down

I have often thought there are few incentives for good, intelligent people to run for public office, regardless of politicval stripe.
Randall Garrison is one of those people. If we had more leaders like Randall in Ottawa, our country would be far better off. I have known and worked with Randall for many years. I encourage all voters to become informed, exercise their democratic right to vote and to seriously consider Randall Garrison for this riding. You will not be sorry. It is time for a change!

Keith Martin is in big trouble. The military ad came out the day before all the polls opened at CFB Esquimalt. It has persisted in the news. Early in the campaign he complained to the media about his lack of volunteer support. There remains a lot of anger in this riding about Adscam.

Garrison is running very, very strong on the ground and has been hitting for the cycle in the local media.

Troy de Souza is doing well, but is not percieved as being able to win.

Prediction: NDP by a few percentage points, Conservatives second & Liberals third.

Comment/commentaire by V. Jara 01.19.06 @ 11:37 pm

I cannot beleive that this riding is still ‘declared’ for Martin. Mustel poll tells us that the NDP dominates the Island “including Victoria”, and with the gaffes of the federal liberals, Keith Martin will be lucky to be in third place here.

Comment/commentaire by P. Kelly 01.20.06 @ 3:36 pm

I agree. Martin should have stayed with the tories instead of jumping ship to the libs. chalk this one up to the ndp

Comment/commentaire by Larry R 01.20.06 @ 4:16 pm

I learned today the K Martin called P Martin an idiot for releasing the muilitary attack ad.
K Martin refused to apear on the same stage with P Martin on healcare. What is going on. K Martin had a fallout with S Harper and became a grit.
It is time for K Martin to visit a shrink.

Comment/commentaire by Private Cheung 01.21.06 @ 8:29 am

I have never predicted a correct outcome. My strategic prediction, then, is Martin.

Comment/commentaire by Dave 01.21.06 @ 4:21 pm

Keith Martin will win hands down. He has held this riding for many years and believes in it and doing what is right for it. He apologized for the stupid TV ads that some idiot leaked through; I was there when he did. Martin is such a great guy that he will take the seat because he is the right man for the job.

Comment/commentaire by Tiffany 01.21.06 @ 6:39 pm

Tiffany, are you hoping or predicting? I am with you on this one. Keith will win a real squeaker, by 847 votes.

Comment/commentaire by Mike 01.21.06 @ 8:47 pm

Keith’s a good guy but made some bad political decisions. The NDP has a ceiling which Troy can surpass with ex-Liberal voters supporting the Conservatives. Troy is a personable candidate and will pull a squeaker off here.

Comment/commentaire by George 01.22.06 @ 4:25 am

I voted Liberal in 2004 ! Not this time , I will vote NDP. They will bring my concerns to Parliament in a loud voice.
Greeens don’t waste your vote !

Comment/commentaire by Pamela 01.22.06 @ 7:07 am

Tiffany, NO ONE will win this riding hands down. Although I dislike ship jumpers, I think he’ll probably squeak back in, barely. I hope I’m wrong.

Comment/commentaire by ARA 01.22.06 @ 12:05 pm

A very close one. The NDP and Conservatives are swinging back and forth while the Liberals slowly decline. I think the Liberals will hold on to this one, but just barely. Some Conservatives may vote NDP to get rid of the “traitor” Martin. Certainly it will be closer than last time.

Comment/commentaire by Ben 01.22.06 @ 3:37 pm

it’s too tight to call … both the NDP and Liberal candidates have run a smart race. Both are well qualified and have served the community.
