Andy Savoy has been the only MP to stand up for what the riding believes in and he is the only candidate to actually want to learn french wich is in somewhat of a minority. He kept his oposition to same-sex marriage, something I don’t agree he did right, but he still is a good MP, the cons won it before 2000 but thye won’t again! Mike Allen has been seen as too religious and believes in only what his party will believe in as well as he is too RIGHT-WING

I bet to differ, Justin. In the past, I was tested and declared bi-lingual. I have been out of practice, and would have taken a refresher course this winter if we weren’t in the midst of an election. In time, my french will be just fine.

I think Jason should do his homework before he makes such broad based statements about bi-lingualism.I say congratulations to Alice Finnamore for standing up and setting the record straight.

Comment/commentaire by Kevin Mac Donald 01.09.06 @ 10:13 am

….and by Bi-lingual, you really mean francophone. It is a sad thing to watch so many young people leave this province because they can’t find a job to support themselves. If you have a french name, you have no problem finding a job but if your English you are left out in the cold.

The riding might be very close, and I might regret saying this, but I feel a Liberal win is in store

Comment/commentaire by Nick Boragina 01.11.06 @ 5:26 pm

Andy Savoy is an MP of good character and strong principles, but his candidacy is weighed down by the baggage of a leader and party that is corrupt and not reflective of the social values of this riding or of most Canadians. Unfortunate that Savoy did not cross the floor to the Conservatives, it would have made re-election a virtual certainty where now it is increasingly in doubt.

Comment/commentaire by Eric 01.13.06 @ 1:57 am

come on put on my results it shows a P.C. wIN IN THIS RIDING.

Comment/commentaire by kevin 01.15.06 @ 10:48 pm

In the last election this riding was won by the high turnout rate of the french speaking voters and the low turn out rate of english speaking voters. If there is going to be an upset, some of those same french speaking voters are going to have t switch or a much higher english speaking turnout will be required. Either way it will be close, but the riding will benefit from a conservative win as i suspect mike allen will be named to the cabinet, with a cpc national minority or majority.

Comment/commentaire by Paticia 01.15.06 @ 11:29 pm

In spite of a national lack-lustre campaign by Paul Martin, I truly hope that Andy Savoy wins this riding. He has, over the past two Parliaments, proven to be a very hard worker for his constituency. I know at least one person who switched his vote to Savoy in 2004 from a life long PC and Cdn Alliance record. It will be my first Liberal vote in my 34 years of votes (in another constituency).

The Conservatives may have moderated some - but not yet nearly enough. I take note of Justin’s comments above re Mike Allen - Am I surprised? Not likely!!!

Comment/commentaire by Harold 01.16.06 @ 1:01 am

well it looks like my numbers were correct and will continue to grow for the C CANIDATE Mike.

Comment/commentaire by kevin 01.16.06 @ 9:49 am

I still don’t see what people see in Mike Allen. I truly hope that Andy Savoy wins this. I already voted… and it was a vote against the Conservative.

Go Andy!

Comment/commentaire by John 01.16.06 @ 10:12 am

Con by less than 5%

Comment/commentaire by Wendel 01.17.06 @ 8:53 am

Polls are showing that this is one of the ridings currently going away from the Liberals.

Comment/commentaire by Devan 01.17.06 @ 5:29 pm

moving this to TCTC for me. The tories have had a major upswing, but its questionable weather or not that’s reached the maritimes.

Comment/commentaire by Nick Boragina 01.17.06 @ 10:55 pm

I have known Mike Allen for years, he is hard working, intelligent, and community minded. He can…and will be a strong representative for us in Ottawa. Tobique-Mactaquac has suffered for too long under this liberal administration, Andy may be a nice guy but he does have to accept responsibility for the mismanagement, waste and corruption of the political party that he represents.

Mike my vote is already in the box!!!

Comment/commentaire by chris 01.19.06 @ 5:54 am

Mike Allen can’t win this ridings… you we’re talking about the high francophone votes before well let me tell you that in the grand falls region there will be a huge support for the lbierals, advance polls are working very well and for alice finamore I would like to say to you one thing, I support the liberals since i was born… i believe in what they believe, you cannot win this riding because the francophone community doesn’t relate to you neither does the english. As for your leader Jack Layton, he cannot govern a country or get things done for canadians. Paul Martin is the only one who can protect us again the conservatives and the bloc. All campaign long I heard layton talk about the liberals, where was his speeches about what he wants to do except his marijuanna ligalization. I can’t want to be age to vote in 2years, I will be casting my vote for the liberals and later on I plan on running for the liberals in an ontario riding after university. Anyone who reads this must vote liberal if you want to save your canada from seperatists,ultra-righters and pot smoking NDPers.

Comment/commentaire by Justin 01.19.06 @ 5:42 pm

Mike Allen can win that riding, Justin your are quiet correct in saying that in the French speaking Grand Falls area the Liberal brand is very strong (this is also true in Victoria-Tobique), but don’t forget that Conservatives have won these areas in the past when the will for change was there. Provincially, the Tories won Grand Falls in 1999 with Jean-Guy LaForest, and in 1995 Greg Ingman (now a Federal Organizer in NB for the Conservatives) lost by just 2 votes. I would not expect Mike to win the popular vote in this regions, but he will steam role through Mactaquac, Woodstock, and the rest of Carleton County with even larger margins then he did in 2004….all be needs to do is hold his own in Grand Falls and it over for Andy.

Comment/commentaire by chris 01.20.06 @ 5:19 am

I too believe it will be fairly close in this riding. I like Andy Savoy but I feel change in the air. If I see Paul Martin on TV one more time talking about how Harper is going to ruin my country, instead of exactly what his party is going to do, I’ll never vote Liberal again!!! Good goverance doesn’t inherently belong to one party, you earn that respect! Wish Andy the best, but I’m not in his corner this time!

Comment/commentaire by jim 01.20.06 @ 11:46 am

Carleton county = Bible county.

Simple as that. They’ll vote anything that Jesus tells them to do.

Comment/commentaire by John 01.20.06 @ 2:55 pm

islander you are so right…people don’t listen but last nights plea from Martin will keep Andy, he has gotten things done, mike allen has done nothing but promiss people things that his government won’t help, like GST… our province has HST wich will not change? anyone notice that’s how it works in the atlantic the wonderful HST? Think of a westerner to think that crap up. Can you say Harper right-wing deficit? Jack taxes up for low and middle income famillies… we’re the poorest province in canada so?? we need the liberals by harper’s comments to move in economie… well then lets vote liberal like harper said! :D Go Paul Martin Returning PM of Canada.

Comment/commentaire by Justin 01.21.06 @ 1:57 pm

You don’t understand the HST. If the GST goes down from 7 to 6, then the HST will go down from 15 to 14. The HST is the PST (Provinical) combined with the GST.

Comment/commentaire by Ted 01.22.06 @ 6:09 am

A 1 cent cut in the GST will make so little difference in people’s lives - they will not notice the difference unless making huge purchases. I recently purchased a new TV for $3000 - a saving of $30. The Liberal change to the income tax will show much more clearly.

The Conservative platform appears to me right out of the 1950s!

In this riding (Tobique - Mactaquac) the current MP has worked very hard for the last 5 1/2 years for the constituency. He has EARNED the right to be returned to Ottawa. He has my vote - and I have NEVER voted Liberal federally in my life!!!

Comment/commentaire by Harold 01.22.06 @ 8:27 am

Tomorrow is election day and hopefully ndp and green support can shift to the liberals all over canada because conservatives live in the 1950’s just like harper and his abortion and gay marriage issues.alberta will be ruling us and not canada at the all, let’s not forget Mike Allen and his anti-francophone attitude, he use to be part of COR or his father was, against bilingualism.

Comment/commentaire by Justin 01.22.06 @ 4:38 pm

Justin, your just going to have to deal with it. Many people are against bilingualism including me. It is not fair. All of the high paying gov jobs go to french people. The English are the majority and I believe in majority rule.

Comment/commentaire by Jack 01.22.06 @ 6:48 pm

“All of the high paying gov jobs go to french people.”

There will be no high paying government jobs if Harpers Conservatives are in power, other than their own jobs.

Do you like trade laws that create a “competitive investment environment?” Like the laws that allowed Landeggar to underfund his mill’s pension fund, then make off like a bandit?

Turning Canada into an ultra-competitive member of the global market is the Con’s plan. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Until you realize that means dismantling our labour and environmental laws and turning the workforce into a third-world population. All in the name of corporate competitiveness.

A vote for the conservatives is a pro-corporate vote. I can understand the wealthiest 5-10% of Canadians voting conservative. Any Conservative voter who is NOT in the richest 5-10% is just plain uninformed.

Comment/commentaire by Jeff J 01.23.06 @ 12:07 pm

Congratulations to Mr. Allen. I wouldn’t be surprised that you see Mike as part of the cabinet.

Continued best wishes and success to all those who ran in this year’s election, and a special thanks to all the volunteers who took the time to help in the election process.
