PREDICTED WINNERPatrick Brown

Comment:
A strong supporter of Mike Harris in the 1990s, Barrie is exactly the kind of riding that the middle-class oriented Conservative platform aims to attract. A re-match of 2004 when Carroll edged out Brown, this bellweather riding should follow the provincial trend and elect Brown comfortably. -Gregory D. Morrow

Patrick is going to win this hands-down. He has a smart and professional team behind him. It will not be long before Canadians across the country will come to know this tenacious fireball of a political animal.

Comment/commentaire by Omar Soliman 01.06.06 @ 10:03 am

liberals will win, brown is aweful1 i had to mute him out on the debates! as much as i’d love a green win its not going to happen but with
erich jacoby-hawkins as a candidate he will come in third ahead of the ndp with a small margin.

Comment/commentaire by matt casselman 01.14.06 @ 5:59 am

Although Mr. Brown is a weak candidate, he’s run an adequate campaign and will get swept in with the Tory Tide. I saw Ms Carroll on television last night – she looked like she had aged 20 years over the past month. She’s been a decent MP for Barrie, but voters here seem to have made up their minds about her party.

I agree with Matt on Jacoby-Hawkins, the Greens should edge out the NDP for third place.

CPC (Brown) – 48%
LIB (Carroll) – 34%
GREEN (Jacoby-Hawkins) – 10%
NDP (Burtsyn) – 8%

Comment/commentaire by Jim Lowe 01.14.06 @ 8:17 pm

i agree with the both of you the greens will enjoy quite the growth.
i think the liberals will lose by a small margin though.
as much as i dislike brown, he will win. but without my vote.
bursztyn will lose and place in last place, he doesn’teven want to be the candidate.

conservites(brown)-43%
liberals(carroll)-39%
green(jacoby-hawkins-10%
ndp(burzstyn)-8%

If Brown wins, (and Harper), what a sad day for Canada. Harper continues to lie about his STRONG support for the illegal invasion of Iraq and his condemnation of the majority of Canadians who opposed this war based on the lies and misconceptions of Mr.Bush and his band of neo con artists. The media should not allow Harper to mislead us about his past and his phony new packaging. In order to predict the future, merely project the past.Mr. Harper is the same guy who supports the philosophies of the National Citizen’s Coalition and their extremist friends. Come on media, smarten up and challenge Harper’s current prevarications as compared to his past speeches and writings and do not allow us ordinary Canadians to be hoodwinked by this new packaging and by the gagging and muzzling of the other Conservative Reform Alliance Party (C R A P)uncharacteristically silent “spokespersons”. Mr. Harper and Mr. Conrad Black are held in high esteem by these neo con groups in Canada and abroad. We need CANADIAN values now more than ever.Take a look at the speech by Mr. harper on April 4,2003 in Toronto to the so-called Friends of America demonstration. THINK hard before you choose either corruption or conservatives, lies or liberals.

Comment/commentaire by BOB PRICE 01.16.06 @ 6:49 am

It is always funny to read that liberal supporters are trying to fearmonger people about Stephen Harper and cut Patrick Brown for his age. However these same liberal supporters never speak the truth when it comes to there party. Look at the party’s campaign so far nothing of substance you can’t run on your record beacuse theft and fraud are illegal, so what’s left fearmongering. It will be a real treat when the Liberals and Aileen Carroll are out of Ottawa.

Comment/commentaire by Scott Gorry 01.16.06 @ 2:13 pm

Patrick Brown will be the worst MP that ever was elected for Barrie. He will be a back bench Yes man for the conservative party he will sit in the house and say nothing and do nothing he will be told how to vote when to vote and told to sit down and shut. Do NOT vote for Brown!!!

Comment/commentaire by D 01.17.06 @ 9:37 am

as much as i enjoy insulting Patrick Brown, i’ll insult the rest of them too.

conservitives, lets just go with what you all have to say, thats very close to the truth but you forgot about the nationally hired campaign manager to keep him shut during the campaign.

liberals, carroll has done hardly anything to better barrie in anyway, and we really shouldn’t put up with it anymore. besdes shes to close to retiring.

ndp, bursztyn doesn’t even want to be the candidate and hes already content with his job, do we really thing he’ll be able to walk well come 70? he is 63!!!!!!

green, i really don’t have much of a bad thing against green except he isnt going to win, although there growth i barrie will be overly sucessful.

another thing i’d like to add, jim harris was in barrie yesterday, and that tells you all how sucsessful they are capable of doing.

Folks, we constantly go on and on about getting more young people involved in politics and public policy and you are blessed in this riding to have a fine young man willing to represent constituents in Ottawa. I agree with a previous posting that there is nothing left for the Liberals to do but fearmonger. I think the electorate won’t be fooled this time around because the new Conservative Party has had a chance to get their policy in place, create a great platform of commitments, and the Leader has had a chance to settle in and make his true self known. I predict a Conservative win in Barrie, so please stop the personal attacks on Brown and let’s start talking policy as Martin suggests.

Comment/commentaire by Andy 01.18.06 @ 7:39 am

Brown is a bit of a dud but Carroll is horrendous. Her condescending answers to questions as to why Canada should be aiding China were a disgrace.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.18.06 @ 8:52 am

I met Patrick Brown during my days at the University of Windsor, he is a deeply passionate man about the future of Canada and will serve the citizens of Barrie very well. His age only seems to add to his desire and passion to bring change.

Comment/commentaire by Dave 01.18.06 @ 9:50 am

I can not fathom how pepole can go to the voting booth and cast thier vote for Patrick Brown. He is an idividual that wants nothing more than to spend his entire adult life feeding from the public trough. He loves to talk about being involved in doctor recuitment and the fact that they have spent $100,000 each of the last 3 years, but has he actually brought a new doctor to Barrie, How is it as a big fish in a small pond(Barrie City Council) he can’t deliver, can anyone actually belive that if he becomes a small fish in the back benches saying yes sir thank you Mr. Harper, that he would ever have any influence in Conservative majority government.Shame on those that have allowed themselves to be conned by the western separatist that now run the Tory party and have sold out thier real values with a hope that they will have power in Ottawa. Remember that the Conservatives are the party of Brian Mulroney one of the most hated Prime Ministers ever in Canadian history and the reason for the turmoil within the Conservatives over the past 12 years was because of the coruption of the Mulroney government after 8 years in power. I have heard people say that they would rather have him in Ottawa because he will do less damage than if we left him on City Council and that would be true because he will do nothing but collect a paycheck in Ottawa except if the Tories get a majority by 1 seat and then the damage will be untold, just watch them the safety net gutting Conservatives.
By nature Canada is a country that belives in all the programs that make it a great country and made it for years #1 in the world. Why do you continue to elect governments that want to get rid of those things that make us a great nation. You only need to have gone to any one of the candidates forums to see how arrogant and smug the Tory workers are, what do you think they and thier party will be like if Brown wins.
Lord help us all.

Comment/commentaire by William 01.18.06 @ 10:01 am

If Brown wins we should be asking more of how he will do his job if he can not even debate local politics how does he expect to say anything in the house and debate with others in the house about real policys that matter to Barrie. Brown will sit back and want to learn how to be a politian for 4 years and then run again, just like his uncle Joe Tascona Barries MPP, another do nothing yes man for the Conservative party

Comment/commentaire by D 01.18.06 @ 10:07 am

Interesting comments so far, but it is my understanding from friends working on the national conservatiev campaign that Brown will win by over 10%. If true, then say what you want he was able to change a 2% loss into a 12% gain and somebody in Barrie must like him

Comment/commentaire by Paul 01.18.06 @ 10:14 am

I don’t think it’s that Barrie voters like Brown; it’s more that they’re fooled enough to believe that Harper is no longer who he’s always been (case in point being Andy above). I think the local slew of candidates is quite disappointing overall, and like most voters, my ballot is going to be based on the party and its policies far more than on the local candidate. At least if Brown wins he’ll be off City Council.

Comment/commentaire by Rich 01.18.06 @ 11:31 am

I find it very amusing that everyone attacks Patrick Brown for his lack of debating skills, perhaps it’s not a lack of debating skills, but simply that the man can not tell a lie as well as Mrs. Carroll!

She has gloated and raved about how much she has done for Barrie, but what she does not tell you is that this is mostly government money the MOST municipalities would have received anyway. And that the other portion of the money was usually lobbied for by hard working groups such as The RVH, and the City it’s self.

I have no doubts that she did help get some money or some help for Barrie, but to claim EVERY dollar that has flowed into Barrie as money she got, well it’s the lie of all lies, and disrespectful to those who worked so hard to get it.

Comment/commentaire by I Want To Be A LiBeral So I Can Get Rich Of The Tax Payers BaAck! 01.18.06 @ 1:24 pm

Paul Martin personally supported the war in Iraq, personally supported the missile defence system, long opposed gay marriage, claims to be a devout member of a strongly socially conservative religious group and his economic policies are very right of centre. Canada supports the USA in the war right now. Their war planes refuel in Canada en route to Iraq and Canadian companies are involved in military related activities in Iraq. Canada, under Martin even has a worse air pollution record thatn the USA, under Bush. If Canada actually went to Iraq, they’d only be doing minor policing is relatively peaceful areas ( less than in afganistan) but we’re not going to iraq now. Martin speaks NDP at election time but he is basically a conservative, so attacking Harper for believing what the liberal leader himself believes doesnt make sense.

Comment/commentaire by John 01.18.06 @ 1:55 pm

i think that both carroll and brown are both not fit to run and even though the ndp and greens won’t win i urge you all to think and ask your self who is regardless of the party who is best suited for the job. I thought about this and for the first time, im voting green.

another thing to note the greens were the first to come to my door.

Comment/commentaire by Tasha Boye 01.18.06 @ 5:26 pm

I think Patrick Brown will be a fine member of Parliament complemented by his good personality and municipal experience. Its time for a change to liberal corrpution, and all the liberals that “have drunk from our pockets for far too long”!!!

Comment/commentaire by Jon 01.18.06 @ 5:38 pm

I won’t argue with William about Brown but his position on the Conservative Party contains contraditions.
He appears to criticize the creation of the CPC by the PC and CA parties. In particular he seems to believe that the PCs gave up something positive in order to join the CA in a new party, the CPC.
Fair enough. There was an unhappy minority at the time in both groups, more in the PCs, who did not want the CPC tp be formed. They could offer little positive vision however, and so the members of both parties voted yes to the new party.
He then says that the CPC is the corrupt party of Mulroney. Well no it is not as he himself complained, a new party was created. The legacy party that he seems to believe should not have get tohether the CA to form the CPC is the same legact party that was under Mulroney-PCs.
That said, there is no corruption in Mulroney’s record, and I was not a fan of his, that comes anywhere near what the Liberals did.
As for Brown, he obviously had favoured treatment to get into law school. Maybe his uncle spole to somebody.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.19.06 @ 6:09 am

On a completely personal level I don’t think Mr. Brown is the kind of politician anybody could love. I have sat with Mr. Brown at social events on more than one occasion and his ideology cripples him as a human being, never mind as a politician.
At parties should someone disagree with his opinion he snickers and rolls his eyes. He is quick to make fun of Liberals and Dippers. To their credit both take the ribbing in jest and recognizes some of their party’s failing but should you point out the same to him he is bitting and snide, even down right mean.
I’m not saying that all Conservatives are this way, to my surprise most can actually take off the rose coloured galsses and see some of the faults which lay in their party’s platform.
Mr. Brown, on the other hand, is loyal to a fault. Much in the same way that most neo-cons are, quite simply the man lacks any real sense of humor and is one of the rudest people I have ever met.
If you want to vote Conservative please go ahead and do so. It is a free country and regardless of what anybody says it doesn’t make you evil!! Voting makes you a caring Canadian who respects the democractic process.
All I’m saying is please don’t vote for Patrick Brown.

Comment/commentaire by thebobert 01.19.06 @ 10:16 am

Brown all the way. We have suffered to long under the Liberal yoke. Carroll has down diddly nothing for this riding.

Comment/commentaire by Bernie 01.19.06 @ 1:45 pm

How did Brown ever get into law school? It is not easy to get in. Windsor does not have a special category to admit hardship cases with sad sack stories about how other kids were mean to them in kindergarten. What strings were pulled? What favours were called in? Brown wants to be elcted MP seeming to have received special treatment.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.20.06 @ 12:23 pm

he may have been through law school but i doubt he’s ever held a case. hes probably only held a job off the government

Comment/commentaire by Erica 01.20.06 @ 1:36 pm

I see in todays Examiner that Brown says he does not like being a lawyer! he would reather sit in pariliament as a back bench MP yes man for the Conservative party then work for a living! Barrie even the Conservatives in Barrie are questioning wheather they should vote for Brown! do NOT vote for Brown!!!

Comment/commentaire by D 01.20.06 @ 1:48 pm

A lawyer who wants to sit on his arse and do nothing. Wonderful. I said elsewhere that I thought Capobianco would be the first Tory MP/Cabinet Minister implicated in scandal. I take that back. Brown has that unique mixture of stupidity and greed that will land him in the scandal tank before any others. Capobianco might be smart enough that he knows the MSM is watching like hawks so he will behave. Brown will think he can do what he wants. At least he can save money by defending himself in court if the need arose. He would have a fool for a client.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.20.06 @ 2:01 pm

In case any Brown lovers want to threaten legal action, slander that is actionable has to be known to be a lie and do harm. Well nothing I say is known to be a lie since I am only asking questions. No harm is done as Brown does that by himself. The bar as to what constitutes scandal is set higher for public figures than for people who do not seek attention. Brown wants attention. How did Barrie fall from electing somene of the calibre of Ed Harper in 1993 to election Paddy Brown in 2006. I understand that the Tories had the chance to run somebody better but did not. I guess the Brown fan club turned out at the nomination.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.20.06 @ 2:09 pm

How did Brown ever get into law school when so many people with high marks apply? It makes one wonder.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.22.06 @ 7:48 am

green at 6! at 6! how dare they the ndp have it way to good here i suspect the greens to get atleast 10% here!

Comment/commentaire by Erica 01.22.06 @ 1:44 pm

Why does the CPC do this to themselves? Tony Clement who at least has some record and credibility will lose in Perry Sound-Muskoka depriving the CPC of his experience.
But old Patsy Brown will be there readua nd willing his hand out for a handout. I cannot blame Barrie for elcting this beneficiary of great gifts. Carroll made an ass of herself in the House.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.22.06 @ 4:20 pm

If you keep voting to get rid of the party in power by voting for the conservatives you will keep getting the same old problems, and in 4 years we have to throw them out by voting for the liberals! Get rid of both of the Conservative and Liberals by voting for what you belive in. every vote for them just gives us more of the same problems Do not vote Conservative or Liberal. TO HELL with Both of them!!

Comment/commentaire by D 01.23.06 @ 12:11 pm

Clement might yet make it through the judicial counting process thus giving the central area of Ontario some decent representation.
Paddy Brown is the perfect mix of greed, stupidity and venality that will land him in the soup real quick. The media will be watching Paddy. And they will be watching you. I am sure you will not dissapoint them.
