BEACHES-EAST YORK

Return to START. Go to Ontario POLL TRACKING.

PREDICTED WINNER Maria Minna

Comment:
This riding could go to either Churley or Minna. The NDP has long hoped that the Beach would go their way federally, and time and time again it has failed to do so. Former Ontario MPP Churley is a strong candidate who will close the gap from 2004. The presence of Green Party leader Jim Harris running in the riding could siphon off a small number of votes that could make the difference. This one will be very tight.

NDP pick-up. Like her colleagues from across the floor, Baird and Flaherty, Churley’s provincial popularity is a huge factor and should be enough to bring home this riding federally. Still, she faces a tounger battle than the others in that the riding wasn’t as close last time as the NDP would surely have liked.

NDP Pickup. Tories are running a decent candidate and campaign in B-EY while pissing off the Liberals at the national level by claiming they have a chance here.
The NDP’s Marilyn Churley should finally be able to put the boots to Liberal Maria Minna, of whom it could be said a potted plant as MP would have done as much. Minna = useless.

I’m hoping this will go to the NDPs. I’m tired of the scandal after scandal after scandal after scandal af…

50/50 chance… Minna is well financed, while Churley is getting a lot of support from her former consituency supporters in Toronto-Danforth, next door

Comment/commentaire by Matt 01.16.06 @ 2:02 am

Liberals are pulling out of suburban ridings and redeploying to hold Toronto ridings. Liberal functionaries seen in Oakville last week have given up that riding to the CPC and are now trying to save Minna from defeat at the hands of Churley of the NDP.

How can a sitting M.P. not understand how to VOTE in an election. I don’t buy her story that she didn’t know she couldn’t vote twice - what kind of fools does she take Beach residents for? Please show Ms Minna the door and vote for someone who does understand how to vote - vote NDP and Marilyn Churley - a credible and active vote for the Beach.

Comment/commentaire by Jacquie 01.17.06 @ 1:19 pm

I am very impressed with the Conservative presence here - a presence that has been lacking for many elections. I wouldn’t rule them out here. East York, where I live, has a long history voting PC with folks like Alan Redway, Dennis Timbrell and Dave Johnson. There’s a flurry of blue signs in my neighbourhood.

Comment/commentaire by Karen Reed 01.17.06 @ 1:31 pm

Minna has the ethical taint directly on her, i.e. one office-two votes, and “Team Dithers” ain’t going to help. 4000 pickup to Conroy and 5000 transfers to Churley. NDP will pick this up.

Comment/commentaire by patrick reilly 01.17.06 @ 8:43 pm

Saw the 3 main parties on TV (Green Harris was stuck in bad weather). Conroy presented well. Churley was loke a pro including getting in a shot against Minna about some trust fund I had forgotten about. Well now a whole lot more know about it too. One more reason to get rid of Minna who as usual comes accross as the most incoherent and stupid of all the candidates.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.18.06 @ 3:45 pm

She’s a Liberal, what do you expect? The only way to make a Liberal look smart is to run somebody like Stockwell Day, Rob Anders, or Rondo Thomas against her.

That being said, this riding’s a definite NDP pick up, thanfully.

getting a chance to meet harris at an event called election fest i suppost him all the way and even though i don’t live here my son does and he’s supporting the greens this time over the ndp even though the ndp candidate is fairly suitable.

Comment/commentaire by Tasha Boye 01.19.06 @ 5:11 am

Marilyn Churley is, by far, the most well-spoken and substantial candidate for Beaches-East York. Churley’s platform presented in the Beach Metro and her performance in the TV debate cemented her as the most intelligent choice. The other candidates don’t even compare…

You need not hold your nose to vote for either the Martin Liberals or the Harper neo cons who have re-packaged their leader while straight jacketing and muzzling their lunatic fringe candidates. Support the only clear choice for all the people— Jack Layton, Marilyn Churley and all the New Democrats. Canada NEEDS the N D P.

NDP Win & the makings of a very safe seat for Churley

Comment/commentaire by Tony Bocale 01.20.06 @ 9:52 pm

In every election since 1993, Minna has been the most incoherent and stupid sounding of the major party candidates. That is quite a feat. The CA candidate Abu Alum in 2000 spoke heavily accented English but he sounded pasionate about what he said. The CPC candidate in 2004 had some learning to do but even he sounded better than Minna. Minna presents as less mean spirited than some of the other Liberals but she still comes accross as a blathering idiot.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.21.06 @ 11:40 am

Churley deserves and will likely win this one. Minna was by far the weakest in the debate last week, and Conroy - though articulate - comes down on the wrong side of too many issues (supports “traditional definition of family”, though at least he’s upfront about it). Jim Harris very good, but doesn’t stand a chance. NDP pick-up for sure.

Comment/commentaire by Larry 01.21.06 @ 3:16 pm

As for Larry & comments, Churley deserves & will
likely win this one. Hogwash my boy, Hogwash. What
Politican deserves a ticket to Ride. This election
as far as I can see is about ACCOUNTABILITY & the
Liberals own dam falt for taking the Elector for
GRANTED. As pointed out by Larry, HARRIS is very good, not only very good, HEADS & SHOULDER about these polical Pro’s who are quite short on integ-
irty. There is no way that Jack & his Beam stock
party will ever take office, (FRINGE for EVER)MR.
HARRIS & (the) GREEN PARTY of CANADA will sooner
than you may think have the SUPPORT of the REAL
CANADIAN VOTER that wants a PURE change for all the REASONS they have no choice voting for these
main line parties, who are scandalous & shallow as
they all Promise the Moon & never delivers. The
Green Party will appeal to the Practial aspects &
fundamentals that each & everyone of all yearn for
Norval…..

Psh. Jim Harris? He’s a joke. He’s very possibly the least responsible of all of the notable party leaders and is hated by the majority of the party. He won’t win more than 5% of the vote, possibly less than Peter Davison last time and for good reason. Many people who saw the name “Green Party” and thought the GPC was actually a green party last time have realized their mistake. There are decent Green candidates, but Jim Harris is not one of them.

As for a call? Marilyn Churley by a tiny margin.

Comment/commentaire by Ben 01.22.06 @ 6:49 pm

Churley has no business winning. Dumped her neighbourhood adjacent provincial riding in order to slide into Ottawa on Layton’s coattails. Fuhgedaboudit. Doesn’t live in the riding. Has been a politician almost as long as the Leafs haven’t won a Cup. Anybody but Churley

Comment/commentaire by wolf blitzer 01.22.06 @ 6:54 pm

Love to see anybody but Minna get the seat this time. We’ve had enough of her incompetence and it’s time for a change. I’m voting for Conroy, hoping for a solid blue change across the country.

Comment/commentaire by Mark 01.23.06 @ 3:56 am

Minna will probably eke out a narrow, but undeserved victory for two reasons. She is innocuous (yet vacuous) and doesn’t really do much to offend anyone. The problem is she doesn’t do anything. The second reason is that Minna can count on receiving a large number of votes from the legions of unqualified non-citizens who continue to cast ballots in Canadian elections. There are no real checks on voter eligibility in this country, a factor that usually works to the Liberals’ advantage especially in close races.

Comment/commentaire by Jack Robertson 01.23.06 @ 12:38 pm

I usually vote Green but I’m going to vote strategically this time and go for my second choice, the NDP.

I’d like to see Minna take a hit in this riding. She shouldn’t be in the Beaches / East York
She gave us heck one day for taking our dog into her office. How can you trust a person that doesn’t like dogs!?!?
Vote GREEN! but if you must, vote NDP!

Comment/commentaire by Mike 01.23.06 @ 1:45 pm

Heh Ben!
Are you really on this Planet after that personal
“RANT”. I’d be very carefull spreading your type
of misinformation, you certainly come across as
a FEAR MONGER for a certain PARTY. It’s ashame
when people of your non-clss dripple just to yap
to hear yourself yap. The only individual Ben who
may be hated, would more than likely be the LITTLE
person inside of YOU. In the end my desparate fear
monger, the majority of folks reading this info
will more than likely agree that we all have one,
but it seems you sure use it more than others. How
feable minded could you really be? It must be ex-
tremly terrifle not being loved by anyone with your type of ATTITUDE. Next time do yourself a
favour & tell some other people who might just care what GARBAGE & Poison a truly desparate per-
son of your little status could care. Ben no reply
necessary you’ve provened your point.

Yours in the Integerity of JIM HARRIS,
NORVAL….
ps. JIM has as good a chance on winning this rid-
ing as anyone & if Churley looses you can blame
her very own Union machine.

Well congratulations Beaches-East York. Once again there are enough morons to re-elect the useless dolt Maria Minna. Yes indeed, you Minna loving dimwits just cannot live without Maria Minna to tell you what to do. Go and bow down and do her obeissance. She calls. She calls. You must obey.

Comment/commentaire by david gates 01.25.06 @ 7:07 am

The B-EY riding, is full of idiots! I don’t know how you guyz voted for Minna—obviously those who did know nothing about her or politics! 4 more years of salary for her——- one thing is for sure —– Minna is laughing her self right to the bank!!!

Comment/commentaire by Village Idiot 02.09.06 @ 7:49 pm

Not a chance in hell I’m voting for Churley. Had the audaciousness to plant her signs on my lawn without permission? Grrrr … She lost 2 votes on that!

Comment/commentaire by CDB 09.24.08 @ 7:04 pm

OK - I don’t think potted plants deserve to be insulted that way.
