Love your sight…in fact I am addicted. This is my guilty pleasure. Please keep up the good work!

Brant should remain Liberal. I believe we have a strong local Liberal incumbent candidate. Last Federal Tory elected was in 1950’s - a man named Rattan (pls. check spelling). So no real history of Tories in power (except Ontario commonsense revolution).

Strong Liberal sign campaign, strong candidate, strong team. This riding will stay Liberal.

Incidentally I have door canvassed and no one has mentioned SSM or Gomery. Its health care, health care, health care.

This riding was too close to call until we learned of an RCMP criminal investigation in to Finance Minister Ralph Goodale’s announcement on the taxation of trust units, etc. The Liberals won in Brant by about 5% over the Conservatives in 2004. Health Care remains important but has been trumped by Government Accountability and Ethics - something the Liberals don’t score highly. Brant Liberals will also lose support to a strong NDP candidate.
Mark this one Conservative.

I’m an NDP supporter but this time I will be voting strategically for the Conservatives. Now that all the wheels have fallen off Martin’s wagon, I’ll call this one for McColeman.

The last Tory MP for Brant was Jack Wratten - elected in the Diefenbaker sweep of 1958.

I’m delighted that my old friend Phil McColeman is going to win Brant for the Tories. He is a terrific guy and I’ve known him since we were in grade 4 together!

I called this one back in the summer — when the contested Conservative nomination drew a crowd of 700 in a school gymnasium. The Liberal nomination was held in the back room of Callhan’s restaurant and was attended by 30.

I believe I’m the only Tory that ever got elected in two consecutive elections in Brant County - I was MPP for Brantford from 1981 to 87.

I hope Phil McColeman breaks my record!

Lloyd is a good man but his party stinks. Phil will do us proud. I too saw this coming but only because I have not ever helped in an election since Mulroney in 1984. When I am motivated enough to pound in signs I guess I am not alone and that means a change is upon us.

Brant will stay Liberal. It will be close but NDP vote will not be as strong as in 2004. Jack Layton did not even come to Brantford which suggests Dippers know it is a lost cause. Previous post does not mention that during the contested Liberal nomination in 2004 over 2,000 showed up. People only show up to these things when it is contested. And the local paper reported the Phil McColmen attended the Liberal Nomination meeting in 2004 as a card carrying Liberal. 5 days to go!

I think this one is too close to call, although Brant has 2 liberal candidates and one NDP. Although Mr. McColeman professes his love for the Conservative party, one has to wonder that if the chips are down will he be the next Belinda to cross the floor, maybe, because his friend sits on the other side? I put no credibility in this candidate, and although he has the endorsement of Mr. Gillies he does not have the Conservative background that I would want in a candidate.. Where was this candidate in the past election……Where was his support for the Conservative Party he suggests he stands for? Sorry Mr. McColeman, I will not be voting for you.

Check out the other sites your polling is off, Liberals have this one with NDP running second.
Brant and Haldimand Norfolk don’t always do the same as the rest of Canada so you have to look at actual polling that is done in the area and not assume its the same as the rest of Ontario.

The one thing I find baffling is that Ontario thinks they are voting for the “Progressive Conservatives” but in fact are voting for the “Alliance” party. Wonder how they would be doing with just the “Alliance” logo? Why am I the only one concerned?

Comment/commentaire by Jim 01.20.06 @ 3:06 pm

Well, unfortunately i do believe that the so-called Tories do have an excellent chance of taking this riding, but it’s not guaranteed for them.

Brant has a progressive-liberal history and i mean progressive in the real sense of the word, not Progressive Conservative. Nothing personal against the present Tory candidate here, because i don’t really know him, the only real progressive candidate who ran and won as a Tory in Brant/Brantford over the years was Phil Gillies. In fact, he was the only Tory i ever voted for, and never have since. Also, he is the only Tory who ever won two consecutive elections in this area.

So, history is against the Tories here, but may not be enough to stem the Tory tide this time around. However, if they do win this seat, they’ll have to work very hard to keep it.

I think your right about this conservative too, he is more of your traditional progressive - conservative - but the rest of the candidates in surrounding areas are not. Sweet over in the ancaster/flamboro is typical reform/alliance and an extremist and same for Finley in Haldimand Norfolk so don’t forget your not really voting for the person your voting for the party and today’s conservatives are really western reform/alliance who are extremist in their views.
The only reasonable vote in Brant is for Bowering or St.Amand - heard good things about both of them and I’m going NDP as I agree with Layton the Liberals need a ‘time out’ and the Conservatives don’t have my values.
