With the Tory campaign picking up steam nationally, this riding looks poised to go blue. It’ll be close, but I think Wallace will take it.

This is the first time since Bill Kempling that Burlington’s had a really strong Conservative Candidate. Paddy has done a good job as a constituent MP but I think it may be time for a change.

Looks like “Ribbon Cutter” Torsney’s days are numbered. I’m sure there’s a community centre somewhere that will hire her for a low level administrative position. Paddy’s consolation prize should be a pair of platinum scissors for all those grand openings that she attended to cut the proverbial ribbon (which turned out to be her only real job as an MP, beyond clapping like a trained seal as Paul Martin ‘ummed’ and ‘awwed’ his way through his very, very, very important job as Prime Minister of Canada).

When Torsney abuses her position as MP by skipping important votes and declining her option to represent her constituents during question period, she does not deserve to be re-elected. Torsney’s been an embarrassment to the city of Burlington, and it’s time for a change. Wallace getting in would be the best thing for the city.

Burlington Blue, need I say more.

Comment/commentaire by Paul 01.16.06 @ 8:47 pm

This one will be close, I call it for the Liberals by less than 2000 votes.

I’d like to point out Jim’s comment: “all those grand openings that she attended to cut the proverbial ribbon (which turned out to be her only real job as an MP”

ABSOLUTELY WRONG; Why don’t you do a bit of research. Paddy sat on committees, and chaired some important committees. Also, she’s active in the community, unlike certain other dweebs who try to shirk their responsibility to the community and jump the municipal ship to suit their own ambitions.

Harper is already questioning the legitimacy of judges in this country. This is a text-book Republican party tactic. Divide and conquer. To the NDP supporters in this riding, PLEASE don’t let the Conservatives in. Please vote Liberal and let’s bring back a Liberal/NDP minority government.

Comment/commentaire by Joel Parkes 01.19.06 @ 10:39 am

I think Paddy has tried her best. I want someone however who will actually put our City in front as opposed to the back benches. Paddy was not equipped to be a power member and she never was. She was someone who was in the right place at the right time. Now her time is over and I think it best we clean house.

Comment/commentaire by Doug 01.19.06 @ 12:10 pm

Joel Parkes, you have been brainwashed by Paul Martin’s spin. Stephen Harper never questioned the legitimacy of judges. He simply made the point that all recent judges are Liberal appointees. And that does not make them illegitimate.
Or does it?

Comment/commentaire by Ken 01.19.06 @ 10:55 pm

We found Paddy to be very accessible, and were able to discuss concerns with her or her office re a number of issues from gun registration, to same sex marriage, to drug laws and health. She did lead and sit on important committees, and worked across party lines on women’s issues as well. Having experienced life under Mulroney and Harris et al, I will back Paddy anytime to forego another Conservative government. Vote for Paddy or any party other than the blue one!

Comment/commentaire by Catherine 01.20.06 @ 9:29 am

It is too bad voters cannot recognize the fear mongering that the Liberals are putting forth. Instead of telling what they can or would do they spend all their time making up false accusations about Stephen Harper. It is a sad commentary of the present government.

Comment/commentaire by Jackie 01.20.06 @ 12:44 pm

Nothing wrong with Liberals as individuals but…… anyone who stood in the House and defended the “principles” of Chretien and/or Martin should be ashamed.(That is, if they know what honesty and moralty is.)

Comment/commentaire by J.McKinlay 01.20.06 @ 6:13 pm

i’ve met paddy. she wasn’t smart. at all. she couldn’t answer any of my questions. i’m disappointed to see that so few people are voting ndp as a viable alternative to the liberals. at least the green party is showing well.

Paddy will win this no problem. It will be tight but she’s got one of the best political machines in Ontario and, despite the small selection of opinions stated here, is very well regarded in the community. If the Conservatives hadn’t been so blind in nominating Wallace again (he’s a real dud) and instead nominated Lancaster then perhaps this would turn Conservative. But look at the history, Burlington ALWAYS re-elects incumbents. Paddy within 1000 votes.

Comment/commentaire by Dave 01.21.06 @ 7:31 pm

I just can’t see Torsney winning again. I honestly think there’s a good chunk of people fed up with her. I am.

Comment/commentaire by Alex 01.23.06 @ 8:06 am

I think Paddy Torsney would make an excellent new Mayor for Burlington. She is extremely competent, intelligent, great sense of humour – and dedicated to helping people. I am certain Paddy would win the election. Please, Paddy, add your name to the list of candidates.
