The predicted percentage for the Conservatives in this riding needs to be higher. Walling is a relatively weak candidate who is unknowledgable about the issues. Expect a large Conservative win.

Martin not only reflagged his ships he also slipped thru a bill allowing Barbabdos to become a tax free zone for his Corp. and friends so they can avoid Can business Tax.

Devolin should win no problem. He ran as a Reformer back in 1993. He then got to be in charge of research for Reform in Ottawa. There were problems in the Research department (comptetance) as cited in the Globe and Mail. Devolin was sacked. He then worked for Harris fishing buddy Chris Hodgson at Queen’s Park after he got to be a minister in 1995. Hodgson beiled out before the 2003 provincial election leaving Devolin with time on his hands. The merger then opened up new possibilities. Jeff Connell had already won the CA Nomination but had to fight again for the CPC Nomination. Devolin entered the race with the backing of the Hodgson clan and won the nomination. Others had done the heavy lifting for the conservative cause since 1993 but Devolin got the rewards as once the Hodgsons got him the nomination, he could not lose the election given that the right was united. Despite kicks and losses early on, Devolin managed to come out a winner.

Today’s Globe & Mail article on page A5, “Remarks that hurt Tories last election absent this time” is outrageous. Maybe the main stream media have simply decided that close elections sell and acted accordingly? Let’s see how they follow up on this?

The quote above from a cable broadcast debate, made by Barry Devolin, Conservative Party candidate in Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes- Brock is an interesting example to examine closely.

Mr. Devolin’s personal ambitions to acquire power have a lot in common with those of Steven Harper. Say anything. Mr. Devolin was part of the Reform-Alliance that tore apart the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, a Canadian institution. Yet he moved on to become a Mike Harris political insider and a provincial Progressive Conservative. He was the political operative who helped Ernie Eves get a seat back in the Province. Now he aspires to be in a Steven Harper Cabinet. But obviously he is not quite ready to accept the high standard of discourse that Canadians have come to expect from such an office.

By definition a “slur” or “aspersion” is the act of defaming or slandering. Interestingly, in music a slur is defined as a curved line connecting notes on a score to indicate that they are to be played or sung together.

So what are the ingredients in this cocktail served up to an audience, who few would argue were nearly as experienced in the fine art of political juxtaposition as Mr. Devolin?

You start with stirring up the sentiments of long settled religious bigotry. The intoxicant is unanimous contempt for the sexual abuse of children. Now you add corrupt acts, carefully leaving out Judge Gomery’s exoneration of the current Liberal leadership. And, if possible garnish with a little unsaid regional division – this thing took place in Quebec.

While the attention during this campaign has clearly changed since 2004, the real choices have not. Garbage like this is an appeal to the unacknowledged worst of human intuitions. Too bad that we are not talking about highest aspirations as a country. Little stuff like low interest rates, the lowest unemployment in 30 years, the best fiscal management in the world, the biggest tax cuts in history, Canada’s competitive positioning in the world, the first real social program in a generation … oh, I gotta go. I need to rush out and buy my kid’s hockey equipment while supplies last!

I don’t think Walling is a weak candidate, I particularly like his views on representative democracy and business development. His online campaign is better organised then Mr.Devolins.

Personally I think a compromise is better for this riding we are a diverse riding in every way and need both protection and development. Something Devolin does not bring to the table with his narrow Canadian church ties.

Chris and Barry have done some ribbon cutting for this riding but they have also been involved in questionable decision making and leadership flops.

With that said Ill be voting NDP it seems the right thing to do. I cannot support the liberals due to scandal and think getting beat well give them time to rebuild. I see a conservative govnerment, which if victorious is only because it abandoned the majority of its principles and ideas for said victory.

I do not like the lack of dignity shown by conservatives and liberals this past parliament. I would prefer a change but a positive change.

Devolin well poll around 40% but win by much more then last time due to a stronger NDP I think.

A minority is best for the country right now and perhaps for a while to come.

Please keep in mind that the NDP is the only party that well give money directly to local communities witch is what we need most in this region.

Performing well as a member of parliament and running a country is like running a business ! Personally I am still undecided but what has the current member Devolin really done for this riding? All past elected officials have been corrupt . Hopefully this will stop now that the Gormery (sp) shed some light on the subject. All future governments will have to be more accountable. Everyone that is supporting the Conservatives must forget the MULRONEY years …remember when we had railroads here and not so many trucks destroying our blue paved roads and polluting the environment . THe present Conservatives want to make more cuts in this way! Mike Harris and Harper are cut from the same cloth and seem to both be the spawn of Mulroney. CUT CUT CHOP CHOP hmm I think I just made up my mind go GREG WALLING. or Green or NDP geeez !
