The Tories have narrowed the gap to 230 votes with in the last week. I don’t think either candidate will consider themselves home and cooled out. Hamilton Mountain is so up for grabs!

The Liberal supporters out there, vote NDP. Last time you tricked us into voting for you to prevent a Conservative win. It’s time to return the favor. Let’s focus on the common enemy.

Comment/commentaire by Chris 01.15.06 @ 9:42 am

Bill Kelly is a popular municipal councillor, should help boost Liberal party in this riding. Tories running a nobody and Chris is a 5 time loser in campaigns - look for NDP to do well in north end, Conservatives in East end and Kelly to hold the south and chunk of ward 7 (his base) in the north.

What a difference a day makes…from 200 to 4000 votes apart. I’m hoping voter turnout across the country is huge, and that Hamilton Mountain dumps the Liberals. I’d be delighted with a Tory win, and even with that, I’d consider voting NDP if Layton promised to never speak of last Spring’s budget again. I’m starting to think he’s a one trick pony. Will Charlton have the power to reduce the GST? I do love Canadian politics.

Comment/commentaire by Rob 01.15.06 @ 7:47 pm

lol Rob has a point. Jack sure does like his budget. You can’t really blame him for being that excited though.

Comment/commentaire by Chris 01.16.06 @ 3:03 am

Strange how Don Graves’ website is an attack diatribe against the Liberals when he’s running behind the NDP. Needs more policy and less rhetoric.

Comment/commentaire by Dan 01.16.06 @ 5:41 am

The tories have a very good chance of picking up this riding and I can’t see the winning as easily as your projection suggests.

All 3 Hamilton ridings are going NDP! Liberals and Conservatives are both going to get shut out!

Comment/commentaire by Ken Adams 01.17.06 @ 1:01 pm

VOTE NDP; to vote for the Liberals is to excuse there corruption; I like Bill Kelly but when he was on CH LIVE at Noon; during the sponser-ship scandal he was willing to over look the scandal because the Liberals promise give money to the city. This puzzeled me; now i Know why I didn’t know that he was planning to run as a LIberal Candidate. I quess he was already campaigning.

Comment/commentaire by mike 01.17.06 @ 3:40 pm

Yes indeed, all 3 ridings may go NDP. Now, given we’ve all seen various Liberal candidates argue that “You must vote for me because as part of the governing party only I will be able to bring home any pork!” would the rise of Tory fortunes meana LIBERAL vote would be a waste with an Opposition member? Moreover, with 3 NDP what pork would Hamilton get at all with a Tory gov’t?

Comment/commentaire by Bill Costello 01.17.06 @ 5:42 pm

Vote anyone but Kelly. When he declared his intent to run federally, he virtually gave up his municipal obligations unlike other municipal councillors running for Fed office who continued to attend meetings etc.
A self serving, opportunist who will talk over any one that doesn’t share his viewpoints.

Comment/commentaire by Rick 01.18.06 @ 7:51 am

Ok…I have decided. I am voting Conservative. I am doing so because I believe them to be the best choice in this run. I urge all of you to take the time to vote, no matter who you support.

Comment/commentaire by Rob 01.18.06 @ 2:57 pm

Stand up for Truth…Canada, this has been the most one sided campaign of lies that i have witnessed in my 47 yrs and 17 of which have been here on the Mountain both west end and centre. Let’s remember how we got to this election…Harper+Layton looking for a quick rise in power and seat count versus waiting until the spring and the final report from Gomery. Why, because they know that Judge Gomery has vindicated Paul Martin and the current Liberal’s. Yet the lies that Harper and Layton and the Media have been spreading is that all Liberal’s are corrupt. Let’s remember that the Paul Martin commissioned Gomery to find out the truth and provide recommendations to fix the problem for the future. Yet Harper et al smelt blood and power instead of truth and responsible government. Additional lies that Harper and Media have promoted is the gun registry they say is a 2 billion mess that can be re invested in crime prevention, the truth is that it costs about 100 million a year going down from there over the next years due to re registration fees, i know i am a Hunter, Licenced, Registered and trained. We must remember that bearing arms is not a right, it is a privledge which is earned– we are not a State of the Union YET!! Gun and violent crime is down in Canada since the gun registry in early 90’s. Banning Hand Guns is a welcome approach since 50% of guns used in crime are stolen from collectors. If you don’t believe me then read last Saturdays Star articles. The most critical Lie that Harper has made is the one that he is the most fiscally prudent with our tax dollars. He somehow missed including two of his priorities in his election promise budgets ie. Fiscal imbalance with the Provinces and his promise for guaranteed wait times in Health care… Sorry Steven, thats a lot of imprudent spending of my tax dollars and at what cost to social spending where over 20% of our children live in poverty!!!
Steven Harper and the conservatives can stand up with lies and then accuse the Liberals of wanting power at all costs. On Monday the 23rd Let’s Stand Up for Truth…Canada and vote Liberal Bill Kelly. Thank you for reading.

Rant all you want to, Kevin. How loud you shoot is irrelevant to being right or wrong.
2 billion vs. 100 million dollars? Ok, let’s go with your figure. I still don’t feel any safer for myself or my family. If the Libs had added even 1 extra day’s sentence to the crime of actually using a gun in a crime I would have been more impressed. Or used only 50 million to fund more police officers. I’d love to see where that “50% of crime guns come stolen from collectors” figure came from. How do they know? No one knows how many illegal guns are out there. Such a gun is invisible until it has been confiscated. Besides, if every single legal gun in Canada was confiscated would that mean that the use of guns in crime would automatically drop by half? That’s an absurd argument! The flow of guns across the border would more than make up for it in the blink of an eye. A border BTW that the Libs refused to properly fund to adequately protect us, choosing instead to blame America for not stopping the smuggling at their source. Mind you, when they complain about our not stopping the flow of “B C Bud” marijuana we tell them it’s not our job but theirs to stop it going into their country. What hypocracy!
As for Gomery, you seem to be implying that it was totally a Chretien problem and that all current Liberals must therefore be innocent. Bit of a stretch, don’t you think? Besides, Gomery did NOT say that Martin was innocent! He merely stated that there was no evidence to link him to any crime. Embarrassments continue to turn up. Somehow I don’t think that loud posts from Martin supporters are a sufficient defense or reason for anyone else to ignore them.
In the final analysis none of this matters. Martin has ran the most lame-ass campaign in Canadian history! One may have questioned the morals of hired guns like Kinsella and others of Chretien’s troop but you had to admit they were ruthlessly effective at running a campaign. Remember the purple dinosaur dig at Stockwell Day? Last campaign Martin had not swept all those guys out and they contributed enough experienced effort to win the day. This time around all had been swept away and now we see the incompetence of Martin’s replacements.
When someone offers shouts and jingoism instead of good reason it’s a sure sign he hasn’t any. Supporting a particular party out of some emotional faith is largely what has been wrong with Canadian politics for years.

Comment/commentaire by Bill Costello 01.21.06 @ 11:21 am

I call Kelly - He is strong at the door and people voters like him. Kelly takes the south and splits the centre north with Chris and 3 way with many variables in east. I know signs don’t tell true story but they are morale boosters. I have driven down streets in east mtn in a block - one street has 7 Graves, another has 10 Kelly and one has 10 Charlton. Charlton has the stigma of 5 time loser and overly agressive, Graves an unknown (but nice guy) doesn’t know his own parties policies. Chris absent from Mtn News - prob due to strike. As for unions LIUNA and Carpenters Union - large membership on mtn supporting Kelly. Many CAW members on mtn too - have heard from many members who like what Libs have done for auto industry (esp Ford) translate that into more Hamilton steel. Stelco employees have told me that union has placed sign on lawn without asking but they vote how they want just don’t move sign to tick off union. Health care unions like Bill for helping to save Henderson Hospital with Prov Lib MPP Bountrogianni. All Chris Charlton did was march at a rally with other union members and takes credit fo saving it. As for past NDP reps - Hamilton had 4 prov NDP cabinet ministers in Rae gov’t. they were useless and did NOTHING for Hamilton but cost us jobs and tax revenue.

Gomery deals with a 10 year old event perpetrated by a small group of business peope and bureaucrats in Quebec who found a way to line there pockets. Guite worked for Mulroney too.

Gomery or not, the riding is well off and it is well off because of Liberal economic policies. Unemployment is low, deficits gone, economy strong, new houses galore and low interest rates.

It will be a boost for the conservatives if they can win this 1

Comment/commentaire by rob 01.22.06 @ 1:41 pm

I live here and Kelly has lost all credibility because of his personal problems which have affected his professional life! He is now viewed as being bitter and angry and has treated people accordingly. Graves has done nothing for the community and is an unknown who is hoping to ride a blue wave. Charlton is getting in this time, I work with the public up here and even my own family which was liberal has gone NDP. I’d put my mortgage on an NDP win for this election. Hamilton voters are also more intelligent than other ridings and actually check out the platforms and don’t just vote against parties. So just deal with it.. paint hamilton orange…

Comment/commentaire by Hayley 01.22.06 @ 6:30 pm

I just watched the debate on cable 14, I am now for sure voting for Chris Charlton and the NDP. Bill Kelly was very rude and obnoxious and just kept raising his voice over other people’s, I don’t want him to represent me in Ottawa.

Comment/commentaire by Hayley 01.22.06 @ 6:57 pm

Jamie just to let you know it was the Hamilton Health Coalititon that organized to save the Henderson; NOT BILL KELLY! 80% of the money raised was by CUPE UNION who support the NDP. He just came for the ride.
