Albrecht to win. Myers defeated. Harper is PM on the 23.

The conservatives will win here. The liberals are crooked and I could sure use that GST cut when I buy a new car and also that $1200 a year child cheque since I don’t beleive daycare is the place for my children

Terra,
While I’m not saying I support the Liberals, don’t you think that the $32 billion that will be spent on the GST cut could be use to help out other people? Sure, saving a couple hundred dollars might be good, but I wouldn’t mind paying 7% GST if it means that my kids will get the health care and education that they deserve.

The government has been overtaxing for years and lying about it hence the approximately 8 billion dollar error in their estimated surplus…and it is time to have the tax payer retain a bit more of his earning rather than lending it to the government. Yes indeed it is better to run a surplus than the other way around and of course is is nice to pay down the debt which is looked after by some of this excess surplus however we are now in pretty good shape economically and could slow down a bit with respect to debt reduction. The liberals have not been too , too bad with respect to money management however keep in mind that it was the policies ie GST and freetrade which allowed them to have the very positive revenues in the first place. These very policies they fought so strongly against when in opposition yet firmly embraced when they got in power.
Other than for their handling of the finances their record in government has been atrocious and hampered by the proven corruptness and their unprincipled efforts to remain in power at all cost.
At any rate it is going to be a Tory government and a like minded mp in the riding will only help get local matters looked after.
For the love of Canada vote Conservative

Garry,
I appreciate the sentiment that a few extra bucks in our pocket under Torrie rule would be nice. But I would like to take issue with the idea that since we are in “pretty good shape economically” the government should take less.
The adage of save in good times and spend in poor times is appropriately applied to Canada’s present economic situation. If we don’t take the opportunity now to pay down the dept when will we? In the poor economic time periods? Of course not.
Canada needs to be paying down our dept now and when we land on hard economic times in the future the government of the day should run a deficit and pump money back into the economy to curb the down turn.
A leveling out of a countries economic fortunes must occur at both the peaks and troughs in the economic cycle.
This is not the time for the government to cut taxes. This is the time that Canada should be paying down as much dept as possible to leave room in the future to borrow when we actually need the money.
A Conservative budget that cuts the GST and runs dangerously close to a deficit is not what Canada needs today. It is irresponsible to jeopardize Canada’s long term economic future.
Vote Liberal this election and keep Canada’s economy strong.

The neo-conservative reason for tax cuts has nothing to do with putting money in the taxpayers’ pockets (not even the rich ones)the purpose of a tax cut is to weaken the gov’t so banks & big business can have their own way free of regulation. Question to tax cut fans: Do you like to have your meat processing plants inspected or left alone to do whatever they want?

Yeah James it seems the good folk in this riding are having a pretty short memory with respect to the points you make—-or perhaps they bjust want to be on the opposite side of the new government!

Comment/commentaire by Gary 01.19.06 @ 8:52 pm

HI Chris,
Yeah I believe in keeping Canada strong but it is difficult to do with the scandalous behaviour of the Liberal party and the extremely high tax rates which could be dampered somewhat. As I have stated before, we are in pretty good shape now and with the help of the revenues produced by GST we should be able to give our tax payers a break which might also result in slowing down the brain drain, motivate more doctors to stay here and enhance our ability to attract more medical professional, something that I think you would agree with.
Yes it is nice to pay down debt and I basically agree with philosophy of “making hay while sun shines” but it doesn’t do all that much good if the hay is removed to look after our crooked leader’s horses. Our debt to GNP ratio is actually quite good now,and almost certainly will improve along with our economic performance thanks partly to the policies implemented by a previous Conservative government and partly by the management of the Liberals during their last 12 years in power. Keep in mind that in order for the Liberals and all of us to get to this position we had to sacrifice big time and as such we are now faced with re-paying some of the results of those hardships. We must devote money to the military in order to re build them if we are to have any aspirations of influence in the global society, we must for sure devote more money to the medical situation we are in as a result of the Liberals policies or priorities, and I can go on and on but you get my drift?
We the taxpayers can use and should receive a bit of relief as well…we have “a tough row to hoe” but we also have some time before it rains again…that is if we vote the correct way.
I am on a roll so just thought that I would add that my initial thoughts of Paul Martin was that he was an honorable man, and would be a strong and moral leader and truly a breath of fresh air after Mr. Chretien’s do nothing uninspiring leadership. Well what a disappointment….he Mr. Martin in my mind has turned out to be one of the most unprincipled, despicable “say anything politicians to retain power” that I have ever observed, and I ain’t that young!!
For the love of CANADA vote Conservative!!!!

How can you justify voting for Harold Albrecht when he isn’t allowed to even answer the publics questions or even reporters questions on issues of importance. I am sure he won’t be hiding in kitchens when it comes time to implement the ultra right wing conservative agenda presently being peddled quietly by Stephen Harper. Stop hiding Harold and answer our questions.Vote liberal you can’t trust this guy.

Comment/commentaire by Sabrina 01.20.06 @ 10:12 am

Garry,

Thank you very much for your well reasoned response.
I’ll try to do the same.

Regarding the scandalous behaviour of the Liberal Government, it is my stance that Paul Martin is catching more of the blame than he deserves. To me it seems that Chretien and a few loyal cronies were at the route of the Sponsorship scandal and at most Martin was on the outside looking in. Near the final days of Chretien’s reign we saw him push Paul Martin out to the periphery of influence. Chretien knew the stuff was going to hit the fan and retired from politics just in time to let it fall on those who stayed behind. To Martin’s credit he did more than I have come expect from politicians in general to bring those who were responsible to justice.

Regarding Martins say anything to hold onto power behaviour over the past few months, I’ll have to agree with you. But, (there’s always a but) in a minority government situation where the art of the compromise is required to pass any legislation one must bend to gain the support of the other Parties who’s views do reflect a portion of Canadian’s values. If not your government falls. Mr Martin experienced both sides of that equation over this past term. It’s a little easier to sit on the sidelines as Mr. Harper has over the past 18 months and criticize Martin’s government while not having to put his Party’s values to a vote. If Harper wins a minority government this time around and he is able to stand firm without compromising his parties values and he is somehow able to maintain the confidence of the House than kudos to him. But I think Harper is going to find it a lot tougher on the other side of the floor. Time will tell.

Regarding the economy. Yes we are in a good economic period but I reiterate that I would rather be taxed now than when Canada falls on hard times. Greater investment in the military and for programs that keep doctors and other well trained professionals in Canada; I am all for it. But (there is another one of those buts) we have to pay for all of this somehow and cutting taxes is not the answer at this time in our economic life cycle. Oh, and I have to take issue with you on your stance that the Conservatives made all the tough choices before hand and the Liberals only managed those choices. It was the previous Conservative government that plunged Canada into a string of deficit budgets and increasing dept load. It was the Liberals (namely Paul Martin) that managed to put the breaks on by making the tough choices and returning Canada to balanced budgets and surpluses.

Finally, if we are to take the advice of its not raining yet so lets just keep not worry about it, I am afraid that when the rain does come we will be left piling sand bags instead of sitting comfortably behind a secure dam that was built ahead of time.

Lets stop thinking about short term gains and take advantage of our present favourable situation to build a strong economy for the future. I do not want the next generation to pay for our short sightedness. We must learn to live within our means and stop asking someone else down the road to pay for it and find a way to dig us out.

Vote Liberal on Monday. It is the best way to secure our future.

Chris

Hey Sabrina,
If you wanted Harold to answer your questions you should have gone to one of the all–candidates meetings! I went to 2 of them and Harold answered any and all questions. Over the years I have sent 6 different emails to Lynn Myers on a variety of concerns and he only answered once. That time it was because I forwarded it to Martins’ office too and it started with a comlaint that I never ever get a response. It is because of this attitude that I have decided to switch my support to Albrecht. The corruption has turn me off the Party, his lax attitude towards the people in his riding has turned me off of him.
Vote conservative, we need a change in the country and in this riding!

When will you Liberal apologists wake up! They’ve had their time in office. They can’t rule for ever. Times up!
When you’re in office for to long you develop a sence of entitlement, arrogance and a loss of touch with the people. Look at Jeff’s comment about Myers not answering any of his emails. They steal tax payer’s money and still expect to be rewarded with a new mandate. Vote for whom ever you want, but if you vote Lieberal your a fool.

Comment/commentaire by John B. 01.20.06 @ 11:52 am

Voting Liberal basically means you endorse their corruption and scandals which is direct result of them being in power too long, feeling invincible and free to do whatever they want because they clain they are the only logical choice. I as a Canadian am so completely offended by that. Liberal is the only choice for mainstream Canadians. And Paul Martin says he is for a unified Canada. Now more than ever we do have another choice and the choice is Conservative. Liberals need a time out to clean up and figure what they believe in. This is why I think the Liberal campaign has gone so badly, once they started free falling, this was all new to them and they did not know how to react. Send the Liberal Party a message on the 23rd and send them to the other side of the House, the opposition side.

The last all candidates meeting was an eye opener!
It was pointed out that Lib. Myers voted against making a law that would reverse the decision the BC courts made that said possession of child porno is OK. The Liberals want to get rid of the not withstanding clause! The courts say that possessing child porno is OK and the Libs want to let them have the final say on everything???
Myers is soft on child pornography and has done little for the people in this riding. Just look at his website! http://www.lynnmyers.com/
Look at the “Media Room” The latest news he has is from 2004! The only thing he has done lately is collect a paycheck!

The first commentator’s I could sure use that GST cut when I buy a new car and also that $1200 a year child cheque. So, you’re not buying beer & popcorn. Instead you’re dumb enough to think that a $1 day stolen from your kids and $10/month GST break will buy you a car.
Good luck - I see why you think Harper is being honest.

Comment/commentaire by John 01.22.06 @ 7:27 pm

I could sure use that GST cut when I buy a new car

Actually - you would save $600 dollars on the average automobile purchase.

Please Learn2Read.

Also - I recieved a flyer this morning from Lynn Myers talking about a national child care program like it’s already in place. My three kids and I have been fending for ourselves up to this point - where’s the beef?

I’d rather the $100 a month at this point as opposed to the Liberal $50 a month plan (to the provincial general revenue coffers).
