No, you wrong on this one. Will be very tight, but liberals have better organization.

Mr.Macklin get off your butt and apologize to your military families in Trenton for that disgusting add that the low class liberals put out which is STILL running in Quebec. At least show that you have some class even if your leader does not.

The prediction of a Norlock win is most likely considering the horserace in the last election and the Liberals just barely won. With the momentum this time around for the Conservatives, the rise in popularity, and the fact that the Conservatives have had a policy convention outlining where they stand on issues, this riding will most likely go to the Conservatives.

Comment/commentaire by Andy 01.12.06 @ 11:41 pm

Agree that this one will be a lot closer than predicted here. The Liberal organization is VERY strong, and the Conservative candidate Norlock is “new” and not as well known as Galt was. That, and combined with the fact that the Grits could pick up some of the NDP vote will make this one quite close. It will boil down to “getting the vote out” and I give it to the Grits by a hair.

Actually the Liberal campaign looks like its in dissarray, with one person saying one thing and PM saying something else, while the Conservatives are all towing the party line, very organised. Here the riding was traditionally conservative (small c and Big)for years, I think the people here have had enough of the Liberals for the time being. sorry Mr. Macklin

David, you must be a Liberal supporter to say the Liberal organization is strong. One thing that’s working for the Norlock campaign is the strong NDP candidate in Russ Christianson. I don’t think the NDP vote will collapse quite as much as it has in other elections. There are so many undecided voters and I’ve heard lots of people on the radio (CFRB, CBC) saying that they are now tired of the Liberals and obviously the polls are showing that. I think the Chretien/Martin Liberals are finally over and considering that this riding of Northumberland-Quinte West tends to mirror the national trend, this increases suspicions that Norlock will win. The Conservatives have had a policy convention so it is difficult for the Liberals to focus all their efforts on Harper shooting rays out of his eyes and scaring children.

At this point in the election in 2004, the Liberals in the riding began their fear mongering tactics. It has begun again. One key point, do not overlook the Conservative organization but more importantly the Candidate. I prefer Norlock, a man who spent 30 years as an OPP officer protecting citizens rather than Macklin, a man who spent 30 years defending criminals as a defence lawyer.

Comment/commentaire by T.C. 01.17.06 @ 3:58 pm

At this point in the 2004 election, the Liberals began their REALITY mongering tactics, and yes, it has begun again. My Canada does not include revisiting the same-sex marriage issue as Stephen Harper has promised, it does not include participating in U.S. Missile Defence as Stephen Harper has promised, it does not include reneging on the Kyoto agreement as Stephen Harper has promised, it does not include sending soldiers to Iraq as Stephen Harper wished to do …. shall I continue? The Liberal message is clearly one of values and a completely different direction that the Liberal party would like to take Canada compared to the Conservative ideals. If there is any “fear” here, it is the fear that many people feel when they think what our country will look like in a few years after a Stephen Harper government. As for the local candidates, Mr. Macklin is an honest, very hard working straight-shooter who has represented our riding well. This cannot be disputed. Mr. Norlock has given many years to public service himself - no dispute there.. it’s the direction that the national party will take our country that is very worrisome. What’s odd is that people seem to want change so much that they are oblivious to the policies that the Conservatives have openly stated they will implement. Change can be good, but not change at any cost!

There is no doubt that for a very large number of Canadians and residents of Northumberland/Quinte West, this election is largely about government ethics, government accountability, government integrity and government honesty.I hate to say this but the liberal party of Canada has failed miserably in securing and maintaining these imperative virtues in their governance of this wonderful country. They have been FOUND GUILTY by a federally appointed judge of corruption. It is a weak arguement to say that Martin was not the P.M. at that time.I suppose weak or not, some excuse must be given to justify continued support.Fear mongering (not reality mongering),blatant humiliating innuendos and outright lies in this campaign only enforce beliefs of the lack of above mentioned virtues. I would much rather take a chance on a “hypothetical” bogeyman party than a proven corrupt one any day.I need these 4 solid virtues in the government I support.I wont get them with the ‘current’ crop of liberals.

Much like David above, I’m voting NDP in Northumberland Quinte West because we certainly can’t vote for the Liberals again.

Comment/commentaire by Will 01.19.06 @ 3:21 pm

The unrepentant attack on the military by portaraying them as thugs “with guns” in Canadian cities, at the same time as they are deploying and defending our democratic values in Afghanistan and elsewhere is nothing short of a death blow to local Liberal hopes even if the majority of the uniformed lads and ladies may be voting in their hometowns, that is, elsewhere.

Trenton is a military town and proud of its role as Canada’s primary eastern air base. The growth and vitality which the Conservatives’ plan offers the area make this deal a certain one.

Norlock has a lock on this, no matter if Martin visits every day this week, as he did today.

Comment/commentaire by Bill 01.19.06 @ 10:38 pm

I’m scared the Liberal’s won’t do what they say.
I’m scared the Conservatives WILL do what they say.
I’m scared that the NDP might go nuts if they ever get real power because I’ll never forget Bob Rae.
I’m scared none of the other parties have a hope to win a seat, let alone this seat.

I’m pissed that my only options are BAD!

Islander, you’re wrong. This is the old Progressive Conservative Party as well. There was an amazing Policy Convention in Montreal held in March of last year. Well attended too where Conservatives from all across Canada came to develop the new policy document which is available online if you wish to read it. On the issue of the West, maybe it’s time that Canada started focussing on items outside of Quebec and Ontario. The Liberals are a regional party. They only represent and care about Ontario. The Conservatives are a national party.

mr.Maclin would you please explain to all those supporting you on this link–1 Why did you vote for same sex marriage? Why did you vote against raising the age of consent from a babe of 14 to 16? why do you support legalizing prostitution? Why do you support legalising Dope for our children? These are planks in the Fiberal platform –anyone dare answer?
