Mr. Cannon appears to be gaining strengh.

Comment/commentaire by Erol Hosdil 12.29.05 @ 11:53 pm

I am going to say that Cannon will win this one.

Comment/commentaire by Trevor 01.03.06 @ 3:34 am

Liberals will squeak with a win

Comment/commentaire by Francois 01.04.06 @ 7:50 pm

This will be an easy Liberal win. The Conservatives do not have a realistic chance of breaking 30% in this riding.

Comment/commentaire by Ken Adams 01.08.06 @ 12:16 am

Comment/commentaire by Jean 01.09.06 @ 3:38 am

I am convionced that Mr. Cannon will win. Not only is the Liberal Party in complete meltdown, especailly in Quebec (outside of montreal, they are now nearly non-existent) but David Smith himself is now embroiled in his own little scandal, Abotech. Moreover, Mr cannon is a former MNA and Bourassa cabmin, and certainly has the Quebec Liberal Party wrkers out for him in full force. For one thing, Martin has been contemptuos of the Charest govt, and for another he’s one of their own. Stick a fork in Smith. This goes Tory.

Comment/commentaire by Michel Careau 01.11.06 @ 9:53 pm

Pontiac will go Bloc. Keep in mind that over 70% of the riding rural and francophone. Even with a a third of the voters shifting away from the liberals, many of those progressive votes will go to the bloc with the rest to the COnservatives. The Bloc have a more saliable candidate when compared to the last election. And Cannon has had some small scale troubles with his placement of English only signs in some areas (such as Chelsea and Wakefield, where the Anglo pop is highest along with his best potential polls).

Comment/commentaire by Lyndon Goveas 01.12.06 @ 5:52 am

Pontiac Riding follows the Canadian trend. Lawrence Cannon will win over his opponents. Both David Smith and Christine Emond-Lapointe don’t even want (or should I say dare) participate in debates that were organized in the riding up to now. I hope their absence will not go un-noticed this coming Sunday when the final debate takes place in Chelsea. For myself, I support and will vote Lawrence Cannon.

Comment/commentaire by Gerry 01.13.06 @ 7:50 pm

Lawurence Cannon is easily the best federal candidate fielded by any party in years in the Pontiac. He is someone who will make a difference in this riding and I have no doubt Cannon WILL WIN THE PONTIAC and represent us well in the next Parliament!

Comment/commentaire by Sean Marks 01.13.06 @ 8:11 pm

Scandels, corruption (even seeps into the Pontiac riding), mis-truths,in-action, broken promises, petty, childish ads.
Against a respected, experienced parlimentarian with a party that shows respect to the hard work and intelligence of all Canadians.
Pontiac goes Conservative as Mr. Cannon moves into a cabinet post.

Comment/commentaire by Micheal 01.13.06 @ 8:17 pm

Pontiac candidate Lawrence Cannon is the right man at the right time for this riding . The current of change will be reflected in the voter turnout which should be well above normal as a result of the enormous potential Pontiac Riding bring to the Conservative Party. Don’t forget that any hope of getting action is having a senior Cabinet Minister as your MP. Get out and vote is the message is team should be promoting…

Comment/commentaire by Daniel R.Ryan 01.13.06 @ 8:35 pm

There are almost no Liberals left in Quebec outside Montreal. They should be protected by the Species At RIsk Act- except the Liberals never did anything meaningful for the environment either. The Pontiac will go to Cannon on the basis of his party, AND his personal strength as a candidate.

Comment/commentaire by David Sachs 01.13.06 @ 9:24 pm

Enfin !

Comment/commentaire by stéphanie 01.13.06 @ 11:00 pm

Mr. Cannon has my vote. The Conservatives have a good plan for this country. We need change now!

Comment/commentaire by Linda 01.14.06 @ 2:02 am

Bonne Chance M.Cannon!!

Comment/commentaire by S.Badger 01.14.06 @ 6:06 am

I am impressed by the NDP capacity to more than double their vote this time. I think that with a couple more years, Pontiac will have the only 4 way race in the country!

Comment/commentaire by David Eggen 01.16.06 @ 7:39 am

As of today 17 Jan, the winner in Pontiac is TOO CLOSE TO CALL. I beleive that if the Conservative are likely to get a majority this week-end, someone like me may go for the Bloc. But if, as it seems today, we are going to get a minority Conservative Government then I will vote for Mr Cannon.

Its looks like up to 20% of voters are going to be undecided until the 23.

Comment/commentaire by Paul Renaud 01.17.06 @ 4:25 pm

Latest poll (Lapresse): Bloc 27% Cons 26% Lib 19% (6% error range)

Comment/commentaire by Marcus 01.17.06 @ 6:45 pm

If the Conservative get the majority because they won one or two seats in Québec (Pontiac and Beauce), I’ll really hate those who have voted to change the face of Canada into something way too close to Bush-like administration. (And Paul Martin will blame himself for this disaster, I hope!)

Comment/commentaire by Ghislain Leroux 01.17.06 @ 9:43 pm

Conservative Win.

Comment/commentaire by Nick Boragina 01.18.06 @ 4:27 am

Why will Cannon win? He has travelled the full span of the riding from Da Swisha to Buckingham, from Breckingridge to Maniwaki meeting hundreds of people young and old fom every economic sector. This man has a viable action plan for the Pontiac that has substance. His opposition has offered nothing but out-dated rhetoric revolving around nationalism and unity. Cannon more than any other understands the the key issue in this riding is the economy.

Comment/commentaire by Todd 01.19.06 @ 10:06 am

Cannon has really impressed me during this campaign on TV - it will be a pity if he is not elected

Comment/commentaire by William Knapp 01.19.06 @ 2:32 pm

Now that Harper stated Cannon would be a Cabinet minister, he’s a shoe in for the win.

Too bad, I was hoping for a dual Bloc win in the Gatineau area.

Comment/commentaire by Blashy 01.20.06 @ 4:32 am

With the liberal vote falling through the floor it would be silly for progressive liberals to vote for Cannon and contribute to a Tory majority. The NDP vote is climbing rapidly and it could be a surprise 4-way race this election not the next one. Progressive federalists have a clear choice to vote for the NDP candidate Celine Brault who has made an impressive showing in the north and centre of the riding. Sure, it may result in the Bloc taking the riding, but thats better than a Tory majority and you never know what can happen with a last minute surge(look what happened in Ontario in 1990 when the NDP won against a 10+ point liberal lead!

Comment/commentaire by Alan 01.20.06 @ 11:38 am

Cannon as a cabinet minister?

Are you sure Little Stevie Blunder is willing to alienate is fundie lunatic Focus on the Family base by putting a social liberal in his cabinet?

Comment/commentaire by Josh Frappier 01.20.06 @ 12:56 pm

Stevie Blunder - uh seems like you have the leaders mixed up this go around.

Comment/commentaire by Calvin 01.22.06 @ 11:42 am

I always call him Little Stevie Blunder (although yes, it was initially to ridicule his inability to run a decent campaign and to keep the extremists in his party quiet): Just like I always call Paul Martin the Dithering Dimwit and Alfonso Gagliano “The Gritfather”…

Maybe I need to stop watching those silly Adam West Batman reruns. :-)
