The thing about the Yukon is that you only NEED Whitehorse to win. 20 000 of the Yukon's 30 000 people live in or around Whitehorse. (Rounding it off, it's actually 19,058 of 29,900, but you get the picture.)

That being said, the NDP will not pick up here. Bagnell has an inexplicable popularity despite being a terrible speaker and perpetually looking like he's been clubbed in the face, and the NDP only won between 1988 and 2000 because of Audrey McG. If anything, a strong red tory Canadidate could finish well here (See: Erik Nielsen)

The NDP are expected to pick up the riding of Western Arctic, if they also won the Yukon, the NDP could make a concerted push to become the "Arctic Party" like the Liberals have been for a long time.

Good luck Arctic NDP on Monday.

I'm voting NDP this time around, but if I lived in Whitehorse, I would vote for Larry.

He really is an NDP'er in Liberal clothes. He has worked on so many issues of importance to the NDP and the poor including the Yukon anti-poverty committee not to mention the fact that he has done very well for the Yukon - making sure the Yukon gets a fair deal (and then some, frankly).

And his wife is probably more left-leaning than anyone on this board which I'm sure will be a great influence on Larry.

Hi Yukon friends and fellow Canadians of the North,

Of all the political leaders, Jack Layton would be the one you'd most want to have at any Yukon or northern gathering that I can imagine... and I can imagine a few... having worked underground at Keno Hill & Elsa, on the Dempster for Yukon Construction, on the SS Keno and at Gerties' in Dawson, on the river from Whitehorse to Dawson, on the Chilkoot, the Haines-Haines bicycle race, or on the board of the Atlin Art Centre... only Layton would fit in, anywhere in the Yukon... he's a cyclist, a canoeist, an environmentalist, an ambassador for minorities, AND he knows his politics. Make him welcome. Give him your vote. You will never ever be embarrassed by having voted for Jack Layton.
Best regards from
"Outside-for-now",

I think the liberals will win this but only by a percent or two. So get out everyone who wants to get rid of liberals and vote NDP in the Yukon.

I think they vote for the local candidate here - gut feeling (I know people here) is that the NDP has a very good chance - the COnservative candidate not known outside of Whitehorse

I'm honestly not too sure about this, in 2000 the Alliance had a good showing with Jim Kenyon, but that might have been a fluke. My head is telling me Liberal, but my gut is telling me I might regret saying that.
